drat, that Panama game sounded great. Hella psyched to see Banyana Banyana and the Reggae Girlz go through, and shocked to see Brazil out after they played one of the best matches of the tournament against France.

Just got back from France V Panama, was an absolute blast. Stadium initially felt like it was mostly rooting for France but around the 75th minute there was a significant vibe shift with the crowd being louder for Panama than they had been all game. The cheer for the 3rd Panamanian goal was the loudest all game. Stayed a while to watch the Panama players celebrate with their core contingent of fans which was delightful to watch. An awesome evening.

Really don't envy the Brazillian girls having to go home after this. They'll get obliterated by the Bolsonaro crowd. Marta has been saying that Brazil needs to invest in women's football or their results will worsen and she was right.

I forgot what the next tiebreakers are but a 3-goal win brings them level on goal difference, 4 puts them ahead I think. I was a little skeptical of expanding to 32 teams, but it's proven to be perfect -- there are a few teams still getting walloped, but that happens in the men's side as well. Plus, the exposure and experience of a World Cup will help all these debutant teams. The USA slipping, and Brazil, Canada and China all knocked out in the group stage (!!) proves the level of quality has just gone up across the board too.
