Anders posted:You're probably right - I joined shortly after the warez had been removed, but I unfortunately remember that ADTRW was a subforum even if I never set my foot inside it. Point still stands though ADTRW still is a subforum. They changed the meaning of the acronym, and along with the rest of SA I guess it has also evolved and matured gradually, but it has always been the same subforum. Early SA was a lot of edgelord-stuff and also didn't have many rules, so there was a lot more slurs, NSW content and other stuff you'd later associate more with the likes of 4/8/whatever-chan/kun. When stricter moderation was applied, one of the things non-ADTRW posters drew the admins' attention to was that in the anime forum posters were unironically posting lewd pictures of underage characters and openly discussing the fuckability of drawn schoolgirls, so Lowtax banned that. whydirt posted:My recollection is that the porn subforum here was closed due to drama/harassment of posters about homegrown content Homegroan was a big reason, but the rest of the warez forums were removed shortly after and I would guess it was about the forums being partly public and wanting advertisers.

Never had one myself, but talking to collectors.. apparently those things are super fragile and will significantly degrade if you didn't keep them in sleeves and top-loaders the entire time. There's approximately no chance that an elementary school you could have taken care of that card consistently and long enough for it to have retained value. Hope that makes you feel at least a little better.

https://twitter.com/edzitron/status/1686940699361792000 in which elon is surprised by inflation. im so tired of people talking about how much value the dollar has lost over a period of 90 years. Like, yeah, no poo poo inflation exists but its over 90 years, thats a long loving time and there are plenty of ways to counter that inflation. Its not an issue unless you're stuffing cash under a mattress you dumbass. ryde fucked around with this message at 18:02 on Aug 3, 2023 |

ryde posted:I will be honest though, I don't really understand how WeChat became a thing. I dont see the value-add over just using my phone's OS. So maybe it is I that am stupid. QQ was/is a chat app kinda like MSN messenger and the precursor to Wechat. Once smartphones became a popular thing, Tencent was able to rapidly make use of their expertise with QQ to develop a decent chat app, as well as carry over their userbase (you can log into it with your QQ account). They were also early in the payment scene: online banking sucked (and still sucks) in China and Wechat Pay is actually really good and convenient so it caught on like wildfire. They do have a serious competitor in the payment area called Alipay, but that's mostly just used to pay for things on Taobao (the equivalent of Amazon, owned by the same company that owns Alipay) and stuff like insurance. While possible, most people don't use Alipay for daily payments or sending friends and family cash (though some do). They also made it possible for developers to create their own mini-apps that run inside of Wechat and can leverage some of Wechat's features such as payment, location, and social stuff. That's also huge because it allowed for instance restaurants to let you place an order and pay just by scanning a code with Wechat. It's typhoon season now so instead of installing another app, I can just open up the typhoon-watch mini app in Wechat super fast and check if any are headed my way. Whenever I go back home I legit miss the convenience of Wechat, it's honestly quite good overall. Wechat is not quite an everything app, there are still plenty of other apps people use, but Wechat has become completely indispensable for anyone in China. I think it's impossible to reproduce, because Tencent was so early with all of it.

It's very like anime fans to fervently hold onto a very old, very tasteless, very gross joke 'for the culture!!'. There's a reason anime/manga is the most behind on kicking pedos out of our spaces (and why there was a high crossover between bronies and anime fans). Sigh. Because there are no easy ways to handle money, stocks, and other similar assets in an easy mobile friendly format. No sir. Nothing in that market. People like to scream about “Apple/Nintendo didn’t invent X” when the fanboys go apeshit over a “new” feature but the Muskalites who are still on board with this must have literally never used a smartphone in their life if they think any of this is innovative.

I will say that i am sympathetic to people who lived during the Great Depression where cash-under-the-mattress might actually have been a good idea, but there's no reason in TYOOL 2023 to not put your money (if you actually have money) in bonds or some other safe vehicle to counter inflation. If you're living paycheck to paycheck, its not inflation keeping you from being able to save, its capitalism and the fact that your bosses are underpaying you.
