You might think they would have learned their lesson the last two times where the outcome was I was right and I took over one of their projects, but here we are again for a third goddamn time.

The networking team is having some 3rd party contractor come in to work on something in the server room in our office. The networking team also refuses to come into the office at all, so they're trying to explain why they need one of us to escort the tech while he performs this task.

A task that must be done in a room we don't have access to, only the networking team and security.

A task that is projected to take 12 hours.

Thus far they are unable to explain why they can't do it themselves.

It could really be anything.

Multiple wifi networks (The one for regular use, the one meant just for executives - that my team uses for our phones - and the old one that's still around) went down a few weeks ago at like 9 AM. By 3 PM they were still down and the bridge call that had been open since about 9 was the networking team hemming and hawing about why they can't come into the office to actually fix things.

Yes they do, but I still have to come to these meetings.

I used to work for a university in the store’s department, they strictly enforced a “only IT could set up computers” rule which caused delays of days or even weeks in getting system up and running. I set one up on the quiet for a friend and another staff member we both knew asked me to do the same. Shortly afterwards I would be asked to bring something from stores to a department (like a toner cartridge) and would find myself in a room with a still boxed PC. This went on for over a month before it petered out.

Owner sent a company wide Teams message.

"Hello All! Please do not worry about reaching out, texting, calling or emailing me this next week. As most of you know, “working” to me has another definition. It means we are moving and shaking and I want to make sure I’m not slowing any of the dance down!! Keep them coming. Have an awesome well Deserved weekend, and a great upcoming week!"

She spent the first 2 week on vacation with her husband and kids. And today they rolled up to an international flight to the Caribbean? An hour before departure, missed the flight, tried to blame everyone but themselves, then book the empty seats now available on their layover and drove down to the layover destination. They must have made it before sending that message.

An important point is that they are so frequently unavailable that a leads sales guys got an offer from a start up in his old industry and was unable to contact the owners. Smwhen he told the Sales VP he got "oh ok" as a response.

He submitted his resignation the same day. His last day is while they're gone. To my knowledge he still hasn't had any communication with the owner and she's sending emails telling people to include this dude on future projects.

We also have people working the weekend at event. One of them is putting in 24 hours over 2 days. We do not get over time.

I'm starting to wonder if what legal but dumb poo poo I can try to get away with before they get mad and poo poo can me.

I was posting itt last year(?) about my hosed up tattoo artist boss. I'm still there atm, much farther in the mortgage process thankfully. The end is in sight, though it's cost me some money to untangle from her awful tax history and record keeping. Been kind of embarassed to keep working there and posting too much about it. I have a lot saved now and a fairly full portfolio so I've put the last year to good use.

I'm not here to talk about that (yet), instead I'm here to post about my boss taking a holiday and preparing so poorly for it that the business is now in existential peril. This may go down in history as the worst she's ever handled ANYTHING.

I wrote a lot and I'm not really comfortable taking up so much thread space so heres a pastebin
https://pastebin.com/8CGH2yGf

TLDR;

Boss freezes me out over pay issue
Piercing Apprentice leaves over the Boss's bullying spilling over onto the rest of staff
Boss Books holiday and books a secret guest artist, tells nobody
Artist discovers it and ends up having a series of fights over it
Boss then freezes her out
Artist has seen how this goes and starts (with my help) to set up her own shop
Boss tries to buy everyone's affection by spending thousands on new furniture while still refusing to speak to us
Artist leaves right before the Boss gets the holiday
We have a busy but difficult week and a half because she doesnt leave the shop prepared
She returns without her phone, is locked out of most of her business accounts
Apprentice is set to leave for the other shop at the end of the month
Once Im sorted and will be leaving as soon as possible
Employees Jan 1st:5 by the end of the month: 2

This is even missing out on random things like the week she threatened to fire everyone, the 3 hour long staff meeting we had to discuss 1SOMEONE'S attitude, her offering me a contract that didnt mention pay, was for 4 months and had a 2 year long non-competition clause written into it, how once I refused to sign it she spent the entire next week telling the guys she was dying and that they would have to run the shop once she was gone, how she performatively now takes her own blood pressure in the shop when things go wrong. There's more, there's always more and it's always worse, like the saying goes.

But yeah, the exodus has started, all we have to do after is make sure she isn't able to grab another crop of young people to do it to again.

God I would but the rental situation here is such that if I can get a mortgage, even a hosed up long mortgage it'll end up being something like half rent. Rent atm in Ireland is about 2k a month. The housing crisis is real as gently caress here.

God saves. Satan Invests

My wife randomly asked me what my location was listed as on HR site and confirmed that, yes, I'm listed as completely remote. Then she didn't respond, but that's kind of normal for our conversations. The reason behind the question became apparent yesterday when there was a sudden Supply Chain all hands. I should have guessed we were getting the dreaded Return-To-Office message. A LOT of people were pissed in the Anonymous Q&A chat. The basics are that if you live in "reasonable distance" of your home office you are expected to be in the office at least a couple days a week. Yes, the terms are all vague, this isn't even being rolled out through a email or anything, just individual departments telling everyone officially to expect to be back in the office starting September 1st.

We're short staffed, just had a re-org get started and now we're going to be pushing people back to office work after three years of WFH and being told multiple times there were no plans to force a return. Adding insult to injury, the person telling us we were coming back forgot to put a background on and you could see she was doing the call from her bedroom. My question about how often she had been back in the office if it is so great didn't get answered. My question about if they were planning on hiring once people start quitting over the policy also went unanswered. I get the feeling that this is just not popular in our management and they fully know it's going to lead to people leaving. I moved 300 miles from the office last year, and people that are listed as fully remote like myself are "encouraged" to come in as frequently as possible while "Hybrid" listed employees are getting forcibly changed to on-site.

Pissing some people off is that the company doesn't plan on ending the wider net cast for employees over the last few years where we were hiring people all over the country that never went into an office since they started. There were some serious anger in the chat because we have management talking about how great being in the office is and how it helps you collaborate and blah blah blah, but apparently not for people who just happen to live further away. I can't imagine the company stopping all remote work/positions because a bunch of us did move when it looked like WFH was here to stay and there wouldn't be a justification to just fire all of us, so even if they don't like the idea of not having us where they can see us all the time there's an understanding that you can't expect to get full staffing without taking advantage of our ability to work remote. I don't get why, besides the paternalistic stuff of keeping an eye on the workers, they are starting this up now. We kept the remote work as primary policy for much longer than a lot of the other companies in our industry, but you could see from a lot of the job postings that Remote was disappearing from the site list over the last year or so, and I had guessed this was possibly coming. I just can't believe how incredibly bad they were at announcing it and how little information we have on the particulars.
