This is also why you don't often see them block people, particularly in the Boer Twitter era. Blocking someone is admitting defeat, they'd rather argue in circles relentlessly than admit you were so annoying they had to shut you out of their discourse. In my more surly moments I've tested to see how long it took to get them to block me without resorting to things that might get me suspended/threats. And it turns out most of them will go on for two days, though this was mostly Facebook and not Twitter. On Twitter they usually just mute you after dropping their talking point zinger I think.

Blocking is viewed as a form of fragility, so leftists that are block happy get seen as easily triggered wimps that can't handle Facts and Logic. If you think you are so correct then there's no reason to back down, only a coward and a liair would ever concede.

"The FBI on Wednesday shot and killed a Utah man who allegedly made online threats to kill President Joe Biden and New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg while serving a warrant at his Provo home, officials said.
The investigation involved the suspect making alleged threats against politicians and public figures, according to charging documents obtained by NBC News.
On Monday, Robertson allegedly made a threat referencing Biden's trip to Utah this week, saying he needed to prepare his camouflage and sniper rifle."

Don't give them even an ounce of good faith, they're not going to change their minds, just do whatever it takes to get them to shut up, then claim victory.

She'd better recuse, the only argument for her staying on the case is that the case has nothing to do with Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, Burisma or Ukraine!

Oh also, it's kind of funny and apropos that after being charged with trying to violate the rights of Democratic voters by cancelling their votes, Trump is stridently arguing that juries in heavily Democratic jurisdictions like NYC and DC aren't legitimate so he needs a venue change.

While I don't concur that "the police and fire department are socialist," I do distinctly remember how Canada, Britain, and/or the Scandinavian countries were routinely held up by conservatives as examples of how "socialism sucks" back in the 2000s, until a bunch of Democrats were like "actually this socialism you speak of sounds cool, let's copy some of their approaches to health care and whatnot," whereupon the conservative line changed into "no, these countries aren't socialist at all, what ever gave you dumb libs the idea these places were socialist????"

Some conservatives also began claiming that the only reason health care in, say, Sweden is any good is because of how "homogeneous" (read: white) the Swedish population is. Even though in any other context these same people would claim that Sweden is overrun by Mohammedan hordes.

Curious why not? The government controls the means and the production, to the extent that it's meaningfully applicable and they're publicly funded by tax dollars. Same with our military. That's three pretty big tiers of society that if a conservative took five minutes to think about it or if it were something else like, I dunno, the EPA or the FDA, a Republican might think of it as socialism. Or Big Government at a minimum.

Fire departments were taken over by municipal governments after the private fire companies of the 1800s failed to prevent cities from burning down.

Fire protection can't be effectively provided by the market, unless you want 1) cities burning down or 2) protection rackets. It's pretty much the perfect example of a public good
