I recently got a job at a nonprofit and they’re unionizing. I’m remote but they’re based in a state with stronger union protections and their nascent chapter is affiliated with a bigger, active union. as is fitting for a non profit, the posho British ceo issued a response to the union refusing to voluntarily recognize them on grounds of DEI, citing a power imbalance between potentially unionized workers and the contractors they use for sweatshop labor overseas. I know a few people that work in NFP, not even as leaders getting paid good money they're the underpaid real workers, and they really don't like socialism. Root cause analysis and root cause fixes don't get much airplay in their heads despite being some of the most informed about the symptoms in their areas. Couple of comrades came with me to a public open mic with our states NFP tenant support org, to inject some covert class analysis and socialist talking points. Their media liaison literally said, right after admitting they're funded to be only be able to help 10% of the tenants coming in, and I quote "we need better landlords".

Non-profit work is usually a poo poo-show of drama that pays like garbage because they expect you to be "committed to the work."
