Apparently they've been violating a ton of political transparency laws for over half a decade and turns out there's literally no mechanism enforcing them.

That tracks. FF and FG introducs politician transparency laws, but obviously didn't bring in any enforcement mechanisms as they were scared that they might be used on them.

But they can keep them around to occasionally go to the media to "tut tut" at political rivals.

So David Quinn has no connection to businessman Sean Quinn.
You know the guy who was forced out of his business. And then suddenly the new owners were kidnapped, beaten up, had bleached poured on them and were told to sell the business.
That Sean Quinn. Is he any relation to this David?

I remember fondly how people still went to bat for David Quinn after all of that, people here will never say a bad thing about some aul fella with a gently caress tonne of money.

And then when the English police tracked down one of the kidnappers he died out of nowhere

You mean Sean Quinn. Nobody goes to bat for David Quinn except other fundie Catholic, climate change denying weirdos.

Sean Quinn is dodgy as gently caress but as you say they'll always be some who adore an aul fella with a gently caress tonne of money.

Brian Cowen was welcomed back to Offaly after the crash by the people who benefited from his time in power. He was involved with the developer of that private hospital in tullamore that ended up being put on hold since 07 cause of the crash. Same developer built an industrial park in the town who's first clients were the HSE and the Department of Finance, while Cowen was finance minister.
He can still hold court with the farmers and business people who want some of that Fianna Fail magic. I saw him a few times in the Tullamore Court Hotel, which coincidentally was built by the same developer. He'd have those same people hanging off his every word while he was out having lunchtime pints. At least he used to before his stroke.

Reading the news coverage of the arrest of Cyril McGuinness, I don't believe it was a case of the authorities killed him to stop him from naming who hired him. More that the police were heavy handed in their tactics and the dude no longer had the sort of robust health you need to have to call SWAT people bellends and endure the beating that ensues.

Also judging by the comments after the kidnapping trial about their being a "paymaster" I think it's obvious that Quinn (or someone in his former social circle) is still being investigated for that role.

That and there's not actually a requirement to register with SIPO. A big deal during the Repeal campaign was Dave getting all "THE ARC ARE NOT SIPO COMPLIANT!!!!!!!" and then insisting that both the Iona Institute and the Pro-Life Campaign organisation were, despite that "compliance" being "just not registering".

Has no one in FF/FG considered the sharp fall in TV licences might have something to do with the multiple thousand households being evicted every month?

Yeah but RTÈ first started reporting on the week after the scandal. They were already down a bunch on the same period from last year, they were already in trouble, basically, before they gave people more reasons to not bother paying.

I always hated paying my TV licence, I don't watch television at all. But then as well I'd be in work and I'd be stuck with radio 1 on listening to David Quinn or someone as hosed up saying terrible stuff and I'd have to sit there knowing I'd somehow helped that happen

My wife pays the licence because she has an irrational fear of being deported. I don't like it but it's her money to waste so I just slag her about it every time RTE is poo poo (daily, forever)

They've got the gah, and Uefa football, they've been good for the world cup, they've got the RWC, they had the Dublin Horse Show, I think TG4 plays basketball and horse racing, RTÉ does horse racing as well. I guess if you want sports sometimes they're OK and other times you can see pillocks on at 3pm on an afternoon show, cooking and poo poo, and other times you can be ill-informed by a radio broadcast at 8am.

Incredible stuff, both from BOI's IT people (who have been floundering for the last few years) and from people thinking this wouldn't eventually put them into overdraft at the very least

Like I could sort of understand the second set of people if you had a BOI account which was almost empty and your intention was to get as much money as possible and hope no one catches up to you.

I found out about it too late in the evening. Not sure if you also had to have an empty account to withdraw.

I'd probably have given it a punt and just sat on the money. If they ask for it back then give it. But on the off chance the glitch extends to their ability to record withdrawals then it's free money from a lovely bank that's taken lots of money off me in fees for bounced direct debits.

I would say the odds of getting hit with an unauthorised overdraft fee or fraud charges vastly outweigh the odds of making off with a few hundred quid scot-free.

A lot of idiots thinking that they're part of Operation Mayhem or something.

But I guess, when I've been extremely poor I might have given it a punt, who knows

I suppose. I've heard some people say they're just gonna close their accounts after taking the money.

My sister knows a lad he was already set to emigrate to Aus so he withdrew and doesn't expect debt collectors to follow him there.

The first one seems like a lot of hassle, and not a way of preventing followup.

The second one: lol, yeah fair play I suppose

So, will TD's suffering a fraction of the sort of intimidation from Far Right types that Library staff have been dealing with all summer result in anything happening?

The answer is unlikely but we might get some TD's going. "I never realized that having a bald, angry man shouting in my face was upsetting before."

They'll beef up security around Leinster House and the guards will continue to escort the far-right into libraries to intimidate people who believe gender isn't binary.

Those few senators who've been courting the far right and cheering on their library protests who are quickly distancing themselves from yesterdays protest, will go right back to cheer-leading them.
