I'll admit thinking some very, very nasty thoughts about property redistribution at times but it was because I was living in my car and eating dumpster pizza shortly after a mental healthcare provider got so upset at me during a telemedicine interview she threatened to call the police when I said the thing I needed most to survive was cash in hand to spend at my discretion, not more pills or means testing. At no point was I being a hero in my own head on the internet, just a scared, enraged, injured, corned, animal. Still am, honestly.

Why can't we just do things like Russia does. Why can't we just have a Nimitz class roll up with a Ukrainian flag hastily painted on it and then give all the sailors funny Ukrainian hats. Then have them sing America the brave or some poo poo while they're rolling past Sevastopol.

And then just send out the airwaves denying the whole thing and saying that you know it is a completely crowdfunded purchase and therefore legal

Progress being made on putting Ukraine in NATO

quote:

In a recent interview with LB.ua, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, highlighted the success of the Vilnius Summit, revealing that in the United States, “substantive discussions about Ukraine’s NATO membership” has begun.

“In the US, a substantive discussion about Ukraine’s NATO membership has begun: it’s not about ‘whether it’s time to talk about it now,’ but about ‘how and when it will happen.’ This is in addition to concrete achievements such as launching the Ukraine-NATO Council and the declaration of G7 countries regarding security commitments,” Markarova said.

Markarova stated that the majority of “Ukraine’s friends” in the US comprehend that Ukraine’s entry into NATO stands as “the sole effective mechanism ensuring not only our nation’s security but that of the entire region. Nevertheless, given our ongoing engagement in active war, this situation significantly complicates the process of negotiation.”

Markarova emphasized Ukraine’s desire to secure an invitation, allowing for discussions regarding specific measures towards membership and the necessary reforms the country must undertake. She acknowledged that the journey to the Washington Summit will be demanding, involving substantial deliberations. Nonetheless, she highlighted this as a top priority that the embassy has already initiated work on, particularly in collaboration with experts, engaging American society, and collaborating with partners.

I would prefer it if we did not do the same poo poo the Russians do, on account of we are supporting Ukraine because Russia is doing those things. We are literally opposing Russia because they are doing that stuff. Besides the US doesn't need to sneak around like that, when we decide to intervene we do it openly and dare someone to do something about it because we have a trillion dollar per year military budget. Russia does what they do because they aren't strong enough to do it in the open, which they assuredly would if they could (because they did it that way during the Soviet times)

The majority of places that accept credit or cards in general in Russia are the two main cities and the bigger retailers you'll find in the other cities in western Russia. Outside of those, Russia is overwhelmingly a cash-only economy. When I lived there, there would be the khleb truck (khleb is Russian for bread) that would come round once a week and you'd buy bread out of it for cash rubles

Even in the Soviet era, it wasn't uncommon to have mysteriously Russian-speaking volunteer units show up with Soviet gear as a form of plausible deniability. There's a pretty famous story about a US pilot in Korea that made ace in a day, only to find men waiting for him at base saying "Good job. Never speak of this again, because you just killed five Russian pilots and we can't afford for that to get out".
