Tossed the money from the Floatplane sub at the GamersNexus and Madison's Patreons instead.

That dashboard shows a 6% decrease over the start of the controversy, I feel like it's not going to raise red flags in the grand scheme of things.

To fine someone, that authority would have to be based an contracts or law, right? As for firing, the owner setting poor standards for the business isn't something you can fire employees for. There's likely to be something in the federal Canada Labour Code, provincial statutes and Canadian common law which says something about when you're allowed to fire an employee, right?

This is another time when having a union would have been helpful for the owners.

If the video statements were "correct", the staffer that hosed up the return process made the firm part in theft and fencing, since the items owned by billet got sold by a third party as owned by LMG. That's more than enough to get fired even in Europe.

OK I don't know all the backstory and certainly not defending the original comment, but I'm pretty sure refusing to log into Onlyfans isn't punishable as desertion.

I think Linus would have to get fined/sued as an owner & CEO that allowed a hostile work environment.

The dashboard doesn't start at the beginning of the decline. According to people on r/LinusTechTips it peaked at over 42k before the GN video went up. Also, Floatplane as a separate division from the rest of LTT relies on subscription revenue to pay for their developers. Losing 4.5k subs means they lost at least $22.5k per month, which is at least one employee's worth of salary (even assuming half the subscription revenue goes to non-labor expenses). This is putting Luke (who is in charge of Floatplane) in a very precarious position since he's repeatedly said on the WAN Show that the existing Floatplane team is already way overworked (big surprise, huh?) so he can't afford to lose anyone.

Given the small business tyrant ownership, she would have incurred in a series of scenarios ranging from monetary damage, reputation damage, loss of housing to jail and deportation(she was living in canada on a job visa). Not as bad as an infantryman under Cadorna but still not very fun.

Since Youtube changed to round the subscription count, because LTT has 10s of millions of subscribers it will only update to show changes of at least 100k. They have managed to lose at least 100k subscribers: https://socialblade.com/youtube/user/linustechtips

The stats being flat for that long (when in reality they were probably slowly gaining towards 15.7M) and then dropping 100k in a day is kind of impressive. "Just" 100k isn't much to their overall numbers but I'm sure somebody there has noticed it.

Not to be a buzz kill but when the precision is showing going from 15.6 mil to 15.5, without knowing exactly how YouTube is rounding, the possible number of lost subs could be anywhere from 1 (losing 1 sub when you have exactly 15,600,000) to 199,999 (losing 199,999 subs when you have exactly 15,699,999 subs. If I had more data of how many days it takes them to tick up 0.1 mil subs, it would be possible to make a much better estimate.

Madison's story is the kind of bombshell information that can be discovered by interviewing current or former employees. If GN had reached out to her for her story, even anonymously, it would have been so much more affective than pulling quotes out of context. That's the kind of investigation I wish they'd done. Maybe they'll talk to a lot of people for a follow up video, but I worry that unless it's put in a video by a major channel that it's going to be unseen by the larger youtube audience.

I'd modify that to say that the friends, family and investigating authorities should believe victims. But society at large shouldn't default to believing accusations. I'm glad you mentioned investigation, because cutting that step is how a lot of black men were lynched and/or falsely convicted.

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/rising-number-false-convictions-shows-stark-racial-patterns-2022-09-27/

quote:

The Race and Wrongful Convictions report released on Tuesday also identifies some striking trends in the data about false convictions, including that pre-trial DNA testing has prevented the conviction of hundreds, maybe thousands, of innocent rape suspects, mostly Black men accused of raping white women.

The Registry, a joint project of the University of California, Irvine, the University of Michigan Law School and Michigan State University College of Law, tracks all known wrongful convictions in the U.S. since 1989. It last reported race and exonerations in 2017, when there were 1,900 known cases. That count has ballooned by almost 70% in the five years since, now reaching an astonishing 3,249 innocent people falsely convicted, and who served nearly 12 years in prison on average.
