So while I've been frustratedly waiting for BG3 to come out on PS5, I've been playing thru the PS5 version of FF7R, which came free with PS Premium. I tried it once before and bounced off somewhere around Wall Market, because I found the fights long and frustrating. Turns out, thats because I'm stupid! The first time I played, I got frustrated very early with how slow Cloud moves in Punisher Mode, so I basically never used it. It turns out you do, I dunno, like 3x damage in that mode? I knew it did more damage, but I never realized it was so dramatic. Playing again and primarily using punisher mode, making sure to take advantage of the block-counter, every fight takes like half as long and the game feels way less grindy. May actually finish it this time!

I would stand behind something like a box or a wall and suddenly pop out and shoot dudes point blank with the shotgun and then immediately take cover again like a deadly game of peekaboo. It made for slow progress but I thought that was how the game was supposed to be played. Adding bullet time to the game felt like cheating.

Been giving it some thought and I'd like a Pirates! style reboot where the common pitfalls of piracy as theme (studios can't resist making it a sexy bougie power fantasy) are avoided by making it RDR2-like. Sewing clothes, gossip, surviving the alien but iron systems of justice and order and the minutae of life on a ship and the social dynamics, dealing with being broke and living on a knife's edge dirty and likely ravaged by disease. A sailor simulator I guess but something that subverts the genre a bit because frankly they've all been stinkers for a very long time. Failing that, I'd still like that Yakuza-style Justified game

I think it would be very funny but I wonder if they're brave enough to be truly real and have the entire world declare war on you if you try to play the game optimally. It's already turning gamers against landowners and the clergy, ratchet that up a bit more and there's going to be black vans parked outside the studio

Update: did not finish TOTK tonight. Started on it but then I was like hey, this endgame area is in the depths right? Probably gonna be a lot of gloom damage! Better get the Depths armor upgraded! Anyway even with duping that took all evening, hunting Froxes and whatnot. Tomorrow night maybe
