Jetlagged + first day of period + 4-year-old who is also jetlagged = a perfect exhaustion storm.

Is it possible to get medication for the PMS time? Cause I had it bad this time and also got into a panicky fight. My poor husband.

My hormonal mood issues/dysphoria have been sooooo loving bad, I'm legit concerned I might sabotage my relationship because of these depressive/insecurity episodes I get that have led to some incredibly stupid fights. One of my friends pointed me to a B-Complex based supplement that helped even her out a lot, but I may need to actually look into an SSRI or something? I'm exhausted from having almost monthly complete emotional meltdowns.

Isn't it fun getting older and being sabotaged by our own bodies more and more? If you're down with the herbs, supposedly you can get some relief with St. John's wort, chasteberry, or evening primrose. It probably wouldn't hurt to try them as tea if you're into it, anyway.

Got the recipe and made the brownies, and they're so good: literally just like my mother used to make. Here's the recipe:
Preheat oven to 350°

1 14-oz bag of caramels
1/3 c evaporated milk

Melt the caramels with the evaporated milk over low-to-medium heat, stirring until the lumps are gone and it's smooth. Leave it on the burner to stay warm and dump the following into a bowl:

1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 stick margarine
1/3 c and a small splash of evaporated milk

Mix into a smooth, pliable dough. Spread a thin layer of dough on the bottom and sides of the pan. Make sure there's some left. Pour the carmel over the dough, and cover it with mini chocolate chips. Use the rest of the dough to whole thing. (I rolled it out between two pieces of wax paper, that worked okay.)

Bake 15-20 minutes. The caramel is going to be hot as hell right out of the oven, so wait at least five minutes before cutting and eating them. Cut them while they're still warm. For best results, cut them, separate them, and then let them chill in the fridge.

They're pretty chewy and very sticky, so not ideal for small kids

i remember talking with my niece about periods and how much they sucked, and i told her yeah, it's the price we pay for genetic certainty.

she didn't know what I meant by that, so I explained that up until recently in history, ignoring IVF and poo poo, a woman pretty much always knew the kid that popped out her was hers. a man had, again up until recently, no way to prove that was his kid. menstruation was the price a woman paid for knowing that kid was hers. at least in biological terms.

we both agreed that biology can suck it.

It's the price we pay for being complicated primates. Other female animals have genetic certainty without the periods.

no, it's something a biology teacher told me once, probably in some half hearted way to make me feel better about the cramps. Better than the religious poo poo which always seems to go on that women have periods because of sin.

Being complicated primates suck. I'd rather be a bonobo. Other than human predation they seem to have it pretty good.

At this point I almost prefer the cramps to the hormone poo poo. Last night I was ready to tear off a friend's head because I was close to snapping at her; we were talking about something personal and she had to keep interjecting about how her kid loves her new toy. Which she went on about the previous night too. Look, I know you think your four year old is the center of the universe, but maybe she keeps acting like a baby because you always refer to her as The Baby?

Is menopause any better? I can't imagine so.

edit: the hormone poo poo didn't used to be this bad for me. I remember no real signs of anything until the flow started, but in recent years the week or two before is insane.

Same with me but the meds are for narcolepsy instead. It's like the pill by itself wasn't enough to shut it up. About a week or so ago I switched to a different combination pill in the hopes that it'll even out a bit more and my narcolepsy meds will be more reliable/bio-available(?). I am now tubeless! And IUD-less. :toot:

Total time from pre-op to discharge was about 3 hours, worst part was the initial IV placement (they had issues getting the veins in one hand/arm to “take”), and my surgeon let me play Enya from her phone while I was getting set up (the nice fairy music lowers my blood pressure, don’t judge me).

Not much pain; my average menstrual cramp is WAY worse. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow when the drugs have totally worn off. The gas has moved into my shoulders in the meantime, though.

modafinil/armodafinil I think fucks with whatever birth control because it speeds up processing through the liver. I’m on Nexplanon (absolutely love it) so everything is always steady (love it). There haven’t been studies, but my doctor thinks that rather than lower efficacy throughout the lifespan of the implant, she thinks it’ll just leach faster and run out sooner (which is nbd because they can go a year+ past the nominal lifespan normally). I know Nexplanon is a lot to get used to for some people, but I love it so much

Stairs are the loving devil when you have cramps. I live in a townhome that has a basement, mid floor and top floor. The bedroom is up top, the kitchen in the middle, and the video games are in the basement. You can only have one: sleep, food or entertainment. I have solved this with my switch and my nightstand side table which I have filled with snacks

Just had an appointment with a doctor and she confirmed that I have PMDD and put me on the pill to treat it. I really hope that it a) works cause I don't want to go on an SSRI again and b) that it doesn't make me depressed like my IUD did. She thinks I'll be okay but we'll see after a 3 month trial period.

I am pretty happy though that she just believed me when I told her this was a problem and didn't say "well stop drinking caffeine and eating sugar and lose some weight and then come see me in a few months". When I called to make the appointment and said I was having a problem with my period they sent me to a female doctor as opposed to my regular male one, but if they had just sent me to my regular one my husband offered to come along and provide testimony that I was indeed having a rough time to strengthen my case.

Well poo poo. So I started on Wellbutrin a few weeks ago plus a periomenopause themed vitamin cocktail my friend swears by. Im two days out from my period and I haven’t depression spiraled even once. I’m having a little bit of an “everything even slightly emotional makes me tear up” thing this morning, but it feels more like what PMS used to be. Manageable.

Fingers crossed this is the sign of a positive trend.
