Gargoyles was the bomb and extremely terrifying to kids in the 70s. This was one of my favorite creature-features back then.

Also the first thing I ever saw Scott Glenn in.

Lool at all the characters either looking just off to the left or right of screen very intensely, even the Gargoyle.

Except good old Buddy, why he's such a Buddy he'll look directly at you!

Really hoping the whole thing was pretty much just a bunch one shots of the characters looking intense and occasionally saying something very dramatic to just off screen.

I hadn't heard anything about Uri Gellar for a while, until this came up a week or so back in a different thread.

I knew he was always in some fringe area thanks to the spoonbending, but I had no idea he'd progressed into "old person gullibly sharing obviously debunked photos" territory.

Never forget that Uri Geller is on record as saying that a UFO gave him all his powers. He says as a toddler an orb appeared to him and shot him in the head with a laser, after which he was psychic.

LOL, plugging that photo into an image search engine brings hundreds and hundreds of results going back over a decade ...

..... and the earliest one listed is an old X-Files fanpage

Geller has responded to the accusations with a devastating riposte

He went on to say that if the photo is actually from X-Files then the producers have probably "received undercover input from real government agencies" about how aliens look.

When someone found the exact model of garbage can lid that Billy Meier built one of his model UFOs out of, Billy said that the aliens had tried to telepathically send their beamship schematics to us, but chose the Germans right before WWII as their recipients and when the nazis were able to build a half-flyable UFO the horrified Pleiadians cancelled sending the full schematics. postwar, unrelated designers found the incomplete plans and made trash can lids out of them :hai:

My dear friends! I received this image from my friend Whitley Strieber ( Communion, The Hunger, Wolfen! And Alien Abduction ) Whitley said
That this image is probably real. It is also of one of the beings that he sees, and have seen and been with.
He thinks it is real because of two things: the prominent vagina is immediately evident when you see them naked, but it is not commented on in the UFO Literature, because very few people actually see them, especially not naked. Secondly. They reproduce in a manner very different from us. What in the world she’s doing in a basement of an abandoned building in Mexico I cannot imagine. Probably, she was emerging from below the surface with the intention of going out into the area to fulfill various needs. She was surprised by the night watchman.
Whitley believes that this image may be authentic. The primary reason is that the genitalia are true to life. Not many people have seen the gray people without covering, and this is an accurate representation of how a woman of this species appears naked.
The image is said to have been taken by a security guard in the basement of an abandoned building in Nuevo León Mexico in 2004.
unless this is some kind of brilliant fake, when people look at this image, it is going to be looking back at them.
Quite amazing!!!!

There's a fun In Research Of episode out today about one of my favorite overblown mysteries, the Roanoke Colony. One aspect I'd forgotten a lot about that they go into detail on is the Dare Stones, the whole set of inscribed rocks allegedly providing messages from one of the lost colonists. All of those are known hoaxes except for the first one to show up, which ~technically~ hasn't been disproven. But it's on even shakier ground than I remembered.

It's kind of funny how the original TV episode just quickly shows its front side and short inscription, but leaves out the fact that there's a whole big paragraph etched onto its back that feels suspiciously wordy for being written by someone at the time (and in language described as the equivalent of Dick Van Dyke's Cockney accent in Mary Poppins :v:). And that the stone was actually found in the 1930s, by a person who mysteriously disappeared afterwards, at a time where the colony had just come back to national attention following a big theater production around it. Suddenly it starts feeling even more like any number of other cases where evidence of something mysterious or paranormal just conveniently happens to show up exactly as there's a big public interest in it.

Just funny stuff. I always enjoy how built up the Roanoke "mystery" is around the actual unknown facts surrounding it, which are basically just a very prosaic event that we don't know some exact details for. I feel like I find something new making the mystery side of it feel less mysterious every time I revisit it.

And yet, somehow, now it's my fault ...
I've sometimes said that a particular event is a mystery but not mysterious. Roanoke? The disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa? The death of Elisa Lam? The Flannan Isle lighthouse keepers? Mysteries - we don't know exactly what happened, but plausible explanations are possible that are probably correct.

There's far fewer cases that are really mysterious, where you struggle to make any sense or explanation. To pick an example, the Fausto disappearance.
