That system would be an 'I' storm, so it's legally required to hit us in FL

yeah but the water in the gulf is insanely warm now so we get new and exciting hurricanes.

Aww think of all those poor map makers, who'll have to spend hours minutes seconds, making changes to their next maps. :(

even though I hate that place with pretty much every atom of my being, there are still tarps on roofs and all the trees are still missing so that would really suck

Wasn't it last year that a hurricane was angled perfectly to wipe out Tampa and then veered hard east with like hours to spare?

Hurricane Ian indeed matches that description, I think. Last year’s "I" storm.

Yes from what I remember the models made it look like a Tampa Bay landfall until maybe a day before it hit?

I just listened to a discussion with a NC meteorologist and he said that they need to keep an eye on it. It’s not likely to have much time to strengthen in the Gulf, but it could very easily come off the NE FL coast and turn into a hurricane

I remember Hurricane Michael in 2018 was initially thought to only reach cat 1 due to the amount of wind shear that was expected in the gulf of mexico, but then quickly intensified from a cat 1 to 3 to 5 in the span of like 2 days. Not sure if the right ingredients are in place for that to happen again but it'll be interesting to see how it develops in the hot gulf waters Monday into Tuesday.

How's a festering divine corpse going to solve that problem, if anything it'll make it worse

There's a notable risk of rapid intensification while the system moves across the record warm eastern and northeastern Gulf of Mexico, which is highlighted by the recent HAFS and HWRF guidance. The new NHC forecast is raised from the previous one, near or above the model consensus, and could be too low. I'm reluctant to make any big changes to the forecast until we get more in-situ data, but the upward overnight model trend certainly bears watching.

No, no, this is just one of those things you need to let them get out of their system. It may not make anything better, but at least it will make them feel better.
