Yeah compared to actual names in this space, Alice Cooper and Dee Snider can't hang. Alice in particular has been making mainstream poser poo poo since forever. It would be tragic to confuse him with anything punk or counter-cultural.

Snider being pro-choice, pro-worker, pro-face mask, but TERFy just illustrates that trans acceptance has a ways to go before it is mainstream. Hence why conservatives try to chip away at this corner.

so i read a bit more about her, and apparently, she came out as trans to her family, and they immediately disowned her cause they were hardcore conservatives. and so, she apparently decided that the correct course of action was to...join an even more extreme group of conservatives. :psyducks:

Rock and roll always tries to market itself to young people as outside and edgy, and being transgressive about what it's acceptable to look like and act like has always been part of it, from Elvis adopting black culture to the Beatles with their extremely long hair in 1963 to everything thereafter. When groups with actual connections to outsiders - like the Velvet Underground - picked up on playing with gender norms and queerness, a lot of bands interested in generating attention decided that was the way to go, and then in Reagan's incredibly straight America, hitting those points again became shocking again.

If you watch any of Twister Sister's videos, it's clear that they literally wanted to be John Belushi in Animal House, to the point of hiring Mark Metcalf to be the antagonist in some of them, so "frat boys playing up rebelliousness" is exactly what they were

Fox News apologizes to Gold Star family after facing backlash over false story

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/fox-news-apologizes-gold-star-002949017.html

quote:

Fox News apologized Saturday to a Gold Star family for publishing a false story last month claiming that the family had to pay $60,000 to ship the remains of their fallen relative back from Afghanistan because the Pentagon refused to pay.

“The now unpublished story has been addressed internally and we sincerely apologize to the Gee family,” a Fox News spokesperson said in a statement, referencing the family of fallen Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee, who was one of 13 service members killed in a terror attack at the Kabul airport in 2021 while assisting with US withdrawal efforts.

The apology came after a Military.com report this week drew attention to the issue and indicated that the right-wing outlet’s top executives had repeatedly been notified by senior members of tStenger, who is the top spokesman for the Marine Corps, added that he viewed the behavior of Fox News as “disgusting,” according to Military.com.

Initially, after being notified about the false report, Fox News only changed the headline on the story to attribute the claims to Republican Rep. Cory Mills of Florida, who had advanced the narrative but later recanted. The outlet later scrubbed the story from its website without a correction or explanation. It remained deleted on Saturday after the apology.

Deleting an entire story is exceedingly rare in news media and is seen as a last-ditch measure if the entire premise of the article is incorrect. Deleting a story without offering readers an explanation or correction is widely considered to be unethical.he Marine Corps that it was pushing a false story.

In an email to Fox News President Jay Wallace and other network personnel, Marine Corps spokesman Maj. James Stenger privately accused the outlet of capitalizing off Gee’s death “to score cheap clickbait points,” according to documents obtained by Military.com through a public records request.

I expect a lot of blatantly, indefensibly false stories to pop up in right wing outlets over the next 15 months and then disappear once called out - and hey, if a few tens of thousands of people end believing, forever, that Biden forced a Gold Star family to pay for their daughter's corpse's airlift, that's just a cost of aggressive, hard-hitting journalism, right?

Fox has already settled one lawsuit around false reporting and is still defending another. A few more lawsuits may curb their appetite.

It just seems like he checks off the right wing talking points one after another. I have a bad feeling about this because since the success of Rufo manufacturing the whole "groomer" thing in response to someone bringing up the Catholic Church's sex scandals, the far right sewer's preferred strategy is to go on offense and just never shut up about it.

Xitter is already inundated with "WHAT ABOUT BLM THUGS OVERTURNING CARS?" and celebration of the Rittenhouse shooting anniversary. Ramaswarmy is doing the usual deflections of blaming literally everything but the actual problem, but the base position is being intentionally shifted more and more toward "actually shooting black people is totally fine and cool."

It's not enough to deny that easy access to guns is the problem, now the test for Republicans is to deny that violence against their enemies is even a problem.
