You gotta just forget about stuff "mattering" or him ever actually going to prison or any of those pie in the sky ideas. Enjoy the fact that he clearly wanted to run for POTUS from his golf course, what he had in mind was a 100% cruise control campaign with minimal effort, and now he has to travel all over the country doing all sorts of legal crap that he's being forced to do. He's being told that he has do these things not on his own schedule but on his enemy's schedule, and it's all happening right in the middle of the time when he is supposed to be soaking up as much of the spotlight as possible and basking in the glow of all the attention.

So it's pissing him off enormously, completely separate and apart from the possibility of actually being convicted of any crimes. Just sit back and enjoy that for what it is, a source of amazing content that will continue to produce for months and months to come.

Is this right?
coal jobs went away because of industrialization and coal jobs have been following steadily since 1985 and the advent of mountaintop removal mining with the associated tech advances that made that possible

the tech advances essentially killed union membership because as manpower declined, union strength declines, and you can't get a roof bolter machine to sign a union card

but it was a managed decline that allowed coal towns to still exist, and associated community jobs (mechanics, techs, security, etc) still provided a better wage than the rural alternative, which was whatever fast food restaurants existed in your town of 8-10k, the city/county/state, the local school, or whatever factory that you could drive to

once coal prices started to fall, coal mining wasn't as profitable and mining operations began consolidating, downsizing, and swapping ownerships to avoid reclamation taxes

that means that the coal operation servicing jobs that existed in every coal community started going away as well, as the salespeople/mechanics/techs were consolidated as well, and if your job didn't go away, it moved 1.5 hours away from your house

compound this with the fact that coal severance tax monies designed to build long term communities and social services were largely coopted by state governments for things like convention centers and facility improvements for land-grant universities or whatever civic projects in the big population centers needed quick cash reserves

so there was a slow but drastic decline in coal jobs available (and thus union membership waned), and wages/benefits fell for those that were available (see again union membership numbers), accelerating through the demise of the coal industry service jobs and it was around that time that Hillary Clinton proclaimed on national TV "we're gonna put a lot of coal miners out of work!" and thus Democratic politics in those former Democratic (and union) strongholds is forever gone

This is exactly the way old-school comedians should feel about "cancel culture" and if you hear a comedian whining about it then you know that comedian's career sucks and they are in denial about it. Good comedy has always included the potential to offend people, and it's risky business. It's the ultimate meritocracy, if you're funny you can literally get away with anything. If you are offensive in an unfunny way, nobody will buy tickets and you will be cancelled from venues and you will not have a career. That's the way it's been and always will be, it's only in the past few years that unfunny comedians want to have some sort of carte blanche to be unfunny on stage and still continue to get paid for it.

There's also sorts of targets for the mattering shield to shift mattering onto, these indictments are most definitely gonna yield some convictions even if Trump isn't one of them. At what point do chuds start looking at all the destruction in his wake and realize that attaching themselves to him isn't going to catapult them to amazing careers the way they imagine it will?

trump has destroyed and/ or hosed over every person who he has dealt with since the ‘70s and hasn’t run out of people willing to destroy their lives for him yet.

The funniest possibility imo is trump is convicted prior to the convention but either already has enough delegates or convinces enough people to write him in that there's absolutely no "clean" way to get anyone nominated since he would be the clear favorite yet ineligible
