One of the things you start to realize around this place is that annoying a mod or an admin is far and away the most serious infraction and infinitely more likely to be acted on than just about anything else. The chat thread rules are a good example.

Like, I also thought it was strange that nothing happened after he posted several essays in SAD comparing Biden's victims to Carolyn Bryant. That kind of thing directly makes SA unwelcoming to victims of sexual assault: if you accuse too important a man you're going to get called not just a liar but basically a racist murderer. It's open season on you, at best we'll chuckle and go "oh wow" when someone suggests you like to lynch little black boys.

What will that guy actually get removed for? Well if he annoys an admin with a non-threatening but deeply weird and stupid email pretending to be someone else.

People are allowed to have pretty vile opinions on this website for a pretty long time as long as they follow the rules. However stepping outside the bounds of the rules will get you toasted, because rules are important. Also not good timing from the standpoint of the latest SAD verdict against people who try to manipulate admins lol.

Yglesias is like a miniature Trump, insofar as he's an utterly ludicrous person who has to be taken seriously (by some people anyway) because of his position. I mean, the very idea of the One Billion Americans thing. If history remembers him at all, it will be as one of the fortunetellers and mystics in the Tsar's court.

Also, what's funny about this is these criticisms from the left exist almost entirely online now because we've been utterly defeated in just about every realm. So the only people seeing them are Matty's and it has zero impact either way on the electorate.

I've seen several comments on various social media platforms saying "just don't vote at all" or "your vote doesn't matter."

This is a reminder to all of us that foreign bot farms are a thing, and they're paid to say certain things.

If your vote didn't matter, they wouldn't try so hard to stop you from doing it.

The fact that a left - much farther left than any of the democrats - exists really gets under the skin/albumen of people like MattY. They don't like to be reminded that their claims of progressivism ring false and they want to totally dominate what's considered "acceptable" leftism in this country (which, of course, isn't leftism by any stretch of the imagination).

This is what the Democratic Party has lost me in my lifetime while voting for them:

Abortion & women’s rights
Citizens United
The Court
Affirmative Action
Climate Change accords & National lands
Genuine universal healthcare
Action on school shootings
Absurdly obvious Iraq war
Billions in permanent corporate tax breaks
Strong unions & labor protections
The right to repair
Net neutrality
Wall Street regulation
Minimum wage managed to inflation
Affordable housing
Countless social programs and safety nets
Police demilitarization
Global hegemony

It’s not that they’re not 100% progressive like me, it’s that they’re actual loving failures at their jobs

The first 4 things are all things the left has lost itself by letting Republicans decide the Supreme Court.

All the left had to do to prevent three of those things was to show up in 2016 knowing that all 3 were on the line and the 4th could have been undone. Instead we let the guy saying he would appoint justices for the specific purpose of getting rid of those things appoint them.

The Democratic Party made it exceptionally clear all of those things were on the line. Voters didn't show up. (Edit: And I think I'll just respond preemptively to the usual comment I get on this - it doesn't matter that we won the popular vote other than that it shows we outnumber them. We knew ahead of time that what determines the president is the electoral college. So "voters didn't show up" is shorthand for "Voters could have stopped this, but too many of them didn't vote or voted third party, particularly in a few key swing states.").

Others in that list follow the same pattern of you blaming Dems for things Republicans did.

And your solution to being pissed that the left shoots itself in the foot by not voting and letting Republicans drag us backwards every 4 to 8 years is to...not vote and try to get others to not vote.

You're all over the place proudly talking about how you'll refuse to vote for Biden, and you think somehow this will prevent Republicans from doing more of the poo poo you hate. It's hard to believe that anyone is genuinely that ridiculous.

Again, it's really important to note that they are merely mad it "exists". Does it have power? No. It's been completely neutered, but the "intelligentsia" can't get over the idea of being wrong, and must march the defiant emoji-left resistance through the streets for further humiliation

Democrats really are telling the truth when they say 'We're capitalists'. It's exactly something a big corporation like Microsoft would do to shut their competitors out rather than creating a better product.

That one's so funny because it's such a ridiculous idea (how do you convince everyone to have six kids on average in a country where they can barely afford 1 or 2, are you going to get Boomers to vote to fund schools for 700 million new kids when they don't even want to pay for educating the kids we have now? ) and he's just like "we shouldn't be afraid to dream big and be bold!"

What if we dream of something slightly less big like healthcare for every American that exists now like they have in every other OECD country.
