So apparently Eric Clapton tried to donate to Robert F. Kennedy JRs presidential campaign. Which he can't do since he's british. And also he gave more than the legal limit. https://guitar.com/news/music-news/eric-clapton-addresses-donating-money-rfk-jr-campaign/

Being the biggest rear end in a top hat in Cream takes a herculean effort, but Clapton managed it.

Shugojin posted:The Baseplate provides a machined and level geometrical basis that is very important to be able to generate accurate pitches from vibrating strings. So the steel baseplate is really the guitar, which looks roughly like a Steinberg cricket bat sort of shape. A wooden neck bolts to the back of the plate and then the fingerboard to the front so the plate stiffen the neck like a truss rod. The bridge and nut mount directly to the steel baseplate and are removable and interchangeable for slightly different scale lengths instead of intonation via saddle. The body, in whatever shape you want, bolts to the outside of the plate but is mostly cosmetic. I think it's an interesting idea but he's an engineer and can't resist over-engineering problems that don't really exist. The market for a guitar with per string intonation and scale length is already pretty small, and even players particularly picky about intonation are mostly going to be happy with fanned or Buzz Feiten-style adjustments to standard setup.

My eyes glazed over trying to read that kickstarter pitch, but basically this guy decided to one up Relish Guitar's quick pickup swapping system by making everything quick swappable too, yeah? Smacks of trying to reinvent somebody else's niche wheel. Here's the Samurai Guitarist vid on Relish Guitars where I first learned about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GZuVXL4hZE&list=PLnInOzeSZKicTJ_aMaCHYgZz7NlwsPZJA

Stupid music poo poo: Went to a show last weekend with an extremely self important sound guy. "I'm Not a DJ" T shirt Rubbish bin with sign taped to it saying "please file advice for the soundman here" next to the console. Talking to musicians like they're idiots Surprising absolutely no one, the mix was dogshit.

I never used to understand the antagonism between musician and sound guy- “just do what the sound guy says! It’s their job they know what they’re doing!” but the more I meet the more I get it.

Short answer is if you're any good in a crew role and have enough personal skills to make a few connections then it's not massively difficult to get into a decent touring career. The usual self-employment worries, but certainly easier than it is for a musician. Your average local bar band tech is probably not going to be at the peak of a fulfilling career in live sound, either because they aren't very good or don't have any personal skills. Techs on festival circuits tend to be better but are also on the 27th band of the weekend with 20 minute changeovers, so you're not catching them at their best.

This is not something I want to hear, even as a bass player, but Squarepusher has made enough music I do want to hear that I can’t file him under that wank category. I think it’s different if you have the skill to do whatever you want and you know how to make music that other people want and then also you do stuff that you know is going to have super niche appeal because you’re into making it and somebody else out there will be too.
