So apparently Eric Clapton tried to donate to Robert F. Kennedy JRs presidential campaign. Which he can't do since he's british. And also he gave more than the legal limit.

Bring me the head of Auguste Escoffier.
Being the biggest rear end in a top hat in Cream takes a herculean effort, but Clapton managed it.

THE TAIL THAT BURNS TWICE AS BRIGHT...

The Baseplate provides a machined and level geometrical basis that is very important to be able to generate accurate pitches from vibrating strings.

It also functions as the "truss rod" to keep the neck straight!

So the steel baseplate is really the guitar, which looks roughly like a Steinberg cricket bat sort of shape. A wooden neck bolts to the back of the plate and then the fingerboard to the front so the plate stiffen the neck like a truss rod. The bridge and nut mount directly to the steel baseplate and are removable and interchangeable for slightly different scale lengths instead of intonation via saddle. The body, in whatever shape you want, bolts to the outside of the plate but is mostly cosmetic.

I think it's an interesting idea but he's an engineer and can't resist over-engineering problems that don't really exist. The market for a guitar with per string intonation and scale length is already pretty small, and even players particularly picky about intonation are mostly going to be happy with fanned or Buzz Feiten-style adjustments to standard setup.

I never used to understand the antagonism between musician and sound guy- “just do what the sound guy says! It’s their job they know what they’re doing!” but the more I meet the more I get it.

Short answer is if you're any good in a crew role and have enough personal skills to make a few connections then it's not massively difficult to get into a decent touring career. The usual self-employment worries, but certainly easier than it is for a musician.

Your average local bar band tech is probably not going to be at the peak of a fulfilling career in live sound, either because they aren't very good or don't have any personal skills.

Techs on festival circuits tend to be better but are also on the 27th band of the weekend with 20 minute changeovers, so you're not catching them at their best.

Sound guys are either nervous but good hearted 20-somethings or the worst pot-bellied, ponytailed guy on Earth. No in-between, although only ever met them in a local band context.

This is not something I want to hear, even as a bass player, but Squarepusher has made enough music I do want to hear that I can’t file him under that wank category. I think it’s different if you have the skill to do whatever you want and you know how to make music that other people want and then also you do stuff that you know is going to have super niche appeal because you’re into making it and somebody else out there will be too.
