Isnt having a terminator chaplain (other than looking beefy and cool) supreme overkill? Every time I played with or against Terminators they seemed almost unkillable and with the Chaplain buffs they'd be unstoppable.

Then again I havent played any game above the size of combat patrol so far so I imagine once my screamer killer is fielded they'll have a nasty time.

I feel pretty whelmed by everything in this reveal which is a little disappointing because of the quantity.

The terminator characters feel a bit too static and boring. From hearing the rumor about the terminator chaplain I thought he'd be an autobuy but he's just a bit blah compared to previous chaplains. Terminator multipart looks great no notes. Sternguard as well.

The weird little rocks on the jump pack marines seem really annoying. I feel like these will definitely end up being a kit bash between assault intercessor legs and the jump pack bodies. I just don't love the feeling of weightlessness they conveys.

Weird emphasis on optional tabards on a lot of the characters lmao.

Getting a little nervous for Kill Team which is supposed to have an autumn launch and scouts were strongly rumored to be in the S3 launch box, but I did see someone point out that you can't see any of the bases for the raven guard option and they previewed Kasrkin as an IG release before putting them in the KT box.

30k stuff is interesting just how much they're making the mk3s cross compatible with the beakies down to similar poses. Will be interested in how much that launch box is.

Generally like the models revealed, but is it just me or do the poses on the jump oakc primaris marines convey a sense of horizontal movement rather than vertical?

I don't really get the sense they are moving up or down. They look more like they are flying horizontally forward like 2ft off the ground rather than having descended from up high or in the middle of jumping up high.

ust lol that they're like "no you're not getting Fulgrim rules for 40K" though the wording is "this model isn't getting rules" so it's still possible they'll release a plastic version much later.

Yikes, that fulgrim is resin? I would abso-loving-lutely not want to deal with these gigantic thin wings in resin. That is gonna break. It's just gonna.

Also I'm confused now, I thought Primaris didn't have a Scout phase? Are they retconning that? Or are these actually new firstborn models?

nah you're right, it looks like a nightmare to transport. also it's resin, which sucks to work with. beautiful model but full of red flags. so perfect for Fulgrim.

it's all contextual (and whether it'll be worth the points is always an open question) - while those buffs are absolutely going to be useless/overkill in a bunch of situations, a 4+ FNP against one of the things that can often efficiently take them out might also mean they remain a tough/unattractive target rather than just evaporating off the board, and similarly a +1 to wound isn't a big deal if they're pulping overmatched opponents (like basic guardsman/marine equivalents) but it gets relevant really quickly against vehicles (knights), big monsters (the aforementioned screamer-killer), and equivalent/superior elites

none of those scenarios are particularly uncommon

I think that's a sensible reaction to it - it'd look very nice in a display cabinet but seems like an accident waiting to happen if movement is involved (those wings would be worrisome even if it was in plastic)

yeah that's hardly being a buzzkill Al-Saqr, I think literally everyone's first thought was "wow what a great sculpt" with the second thought being "gently caress transporting that anywhere". possibly the other way around

like I'm perfect target audience for it, working on models for a traitorous EC army for 30k right as I type this, and I have basically zero interest in that model unless heavily converted to not be a pain in the dick, which is only slightly less work than bashing something more durable together from scratch

looks to me like the path GW has chosen is softly-softly working their way to retconning any differences in how primaris and oldmarines work to "Cawl's first batch were done this way, but after that it's dependant on which chapter", and erasing the distinction for model & unit purposes, in the hope this will piss the fewest people off

Well it's not a SM codex without duplication of roles everywhere because main character syndrome.

But also Scouts are 70 points while Incursors/Infiltrators are 90 points for smallest size unit. That's the cheapest squad of dudes in the book if you're not counting Exaction Squads.

Back in the day (4th-5th edition) I'd take a squad or 2 of scouts for 2 reasons: sniper rifles to take care of characters and/or area denial and then also as a way to get a cheap missile launcher for early game anti-tank. Phobos can do the former with Eliminators but not so much the latter.

I kind of like the Terminator Chaplain, but it's not quite are ornate and baroque as I'm used to seeing. It should look like a cathedral is wading across the battlefield to force-feed you your legs. I like the overall design of the chest plate and legs which are consistent with the other Primaris Chaplains, and the helmet is nice even if it looks like a helmet rather than a skull some sick gently caress put lenses in. I just think it needs more. Something more like:

Maybe the Dark Angels range refresh will include a Terminator Interrogator chaplain that will be more like what I want.

And I guess if anything wasn't in this reveal I shouldn't count on seeing it for a while if at all? Better convert that Justiciar?

Yes. Inceptors are one of my least favorite sculpts in the entire game, therefore are objectively awful. QED.

It's really the unnecessary flying bases I hate. I also hate the idea of squads of Legally Distinct Iron Mans flitting about thr battlefield.

I also like the Inceptors better, they convey the sense of flying and movement a lot better. The new jumpack assault marines are so similar to assault primaris that I am not really enthused about them.

Those scouts absolutely look like they're designed as a kill team; why else would they have one single guy who can wear a camo cloak?

As for why scouts, I genuinely just like the variety of having a single space marine unit that's not wearing powered armor.

Geisladisk posted:

Also I'm confused now, I thought Primaris didn't have a Scout phase? Are they retconning that? Or are these actually new firstborn models?

This was unclear for a while; there was at least one and possibly two space marine codexes that didn't mention scouts in the context of Primaris Marines at all, and used much more vague language like "Initiates start in the Tenth Company and are given Phobos armor as soon as they have their Black Carapace." But that's not the same as saying Primaris Marines don't start as scouts -- space marine initiates kinda are scouts. It looked to me like GW hedging their bets -- they hadn't decided yet whether they wanted to do a scout model refresh or just retire that whole category of space marine, so they wrote something that could be read either way. It's easy to come away from prose like that with the impression that scouts weren't a thing anymore... but now we have an apparently successful Kill Team line that justifies niche infantry kits, and scouts are an obvious choice for that, so here are new scout models and I guess that vague prose should be read the other way after all.

It's kinda similar to how they were really vague about what a Primaris First Company looks like for two editions. For a while they implied that a First Company would just be Veteran Intercessors (remember them? They're sure not coming back now that we have the Sternguard refresh), and then they revealed Bladeguard, and now we have almost the full suite of traditional First Company units so the the lore should probably now be read that the new upsized terminators and primaris sternguard and bladeguard were around the whole time, just, you know, off-camera prior to their model releases. Likewise if we ever get Primaris Vanguard Veterans, they'll turn out to have been around the whole time, laughing just off-screen.

I'm starting to price out options for picking up my first models.

I know I want to start with a combat patrol, or at least that's my understanding from my earlier posts + the OP and the fact that I wanna build the sisters of battle stuff cause they look real cool

But is there a place like MTG goldfish for warhammer, where I can see what people are usually putting in their armies? I'm going to budget it out and figure out what I want to get, plus honestly I'll probably put stuff in that I think looks cool over trying to be fully competitive, but as a new player it's nice to have some examples to look at as well! A casual google didn't turn up too much,

This and the goonhammer article I mentioned when I first posted about a week ago seems like a decent place to start: https://woehammer.com/2021/08/17/a-beginners-starter-army-for-sisters-of-battle/

And I can for sure do the math myself, but my goal is to add things I like to the combat patrol to get to 1k over time so that I can really play with other people. There's just so much choice and only so much money so I want to focus my efforts (especially since I'll need to buy the other basics and paint and stuff)
