Not sure where this goes so I’ll put it here. It’s about the American need to hit big serves: A guy brought a radar to our league night and we clocked our serves. The radar was placed at the net and my speed averaged mid-90s. Fast, but not ~triple digits~. So, of course, I want to extrapolate the speed at the net back to the speed off the racket which is what tournaments measure. I’m not smart enough for that math, but investigative googling found this answer from 22 years ago for the exact question I have. The calculation estimates a 120mph serve off the racket slows to 96mph at the net. So I’m going to say my speed off the racket was around 115 since physics calcs have optimistic assumptions. Triple digits confirmed, no need to investigate further.

do you guys remember in the wimbledon finals djokovic smashing his racquet into one of the wood posts that holds up the net which resulted in a small piece of wood chipping off the post. the tournament just moved on like nothing happened if i recall correctly
