I'm On Observation Duty 6 came out a couple of days ago, it's fun and spooky and only takes like 4 hours to beat if you one shot the maps like I did Improvements from the previous titles: Contextual reporting, no longer need to bring up the 'INTRUDER in the LIBRARY with a CANDLESTICK' while a grue is rapidly approaching to end you (there are, however, still a few anomalies you need to bring up the menu to report, like Abyss, distortions, lights, smoke/fog, and camera issues in one instance, one of the room's cameras got disabled, and I had to notice and report it as a camera issue before it fixed the anomaly and let me see the room again, which was rather clever ) The game is in colour for the first time and looks great! The last hour before 6am and 'winning' the level now plays spooky ambience as the anomalies ratchet up in intensity Not sure if it's worth the higher price point than the previous titles but it's still a few hours of getting moderately freaked out

I quite liked FF16 personally and it's going on my personal GOTY top 3 list but I can see why it's been buried considering just how many good games have been coming out this year. It feels like a freakishly long year in terms of good game releases.

The Making of Karateka (and Digital Eclipse's hopefully to be long-running Gold Master Series generally) is exactly the kind of thing I hoped to get more of after their phenomenal Atari 50 collection. It's probably going to be my game of the year just for how absolutely transformative I think this style of game preservation/re-release is in terms of being able to place significant games in their context and make them accessible to modern audiences. Plus all the old prototypes and versions of Karateka aside, the Digital Eclipse-made Deathbounce Remastered and Karateka Remastered versions are genuinely really cool games.
