I appreciate that the newer version still manages to retain some of that character, though, it's not been polished into generic oblivion as winds up happening to some comic artists (not even a dig at mangaka, you see it with western webcomics sometimes too.)

Yeah, the new art is good, but I was always impressed by how much the artist could portray with the sketchy style. (Was he literally using MS Paint?)
