Does anyone know if TSB have a limit on over-the-counter cash withdrawals? Because I need to withdraw 3k tomorrow, and I'm worried there might be an issue with pulling out that much in one go.

she's done a video or two "just asking questions" about trans children before so it isn't surprising she's diving into the ol' "i am good at a specific field of science therefore my thoughts on everything are great" rabbit hole

Shouldn't be an issue. £3000 is chickenfeed in bank terms. I deal with a lot of customers who pay in cash for *reasons*, and they've never had any issues withdrawing several thousand over the counter. Multiple withdrawals of £9999 however.....

Depends on the branch, which one are you going into?

Also some branches set limits based on the time of day so it'd be helpful to know when as well.

Googlefu says: This limit in the UK is set to £500 a day. However, if you visit your bank for cash withdrawal, you may withdraw up to £2,500 without giving any notice in advance. In case you need to withdraw more than this amount, you will be required to pre-order a transaction in which the bank needs to be informed in advance.

Pop in and explain what's happening and see if they can help you out (with your own money *sigh*).

The new plan is to send the kids down the mines so that they can lift themselves out of poverty. Nearly 100% of all under ten year olds are currently unemployed.

I'm curious about what powers I have as a parent, short of taking my kid out of the school.

The way I see it, It's one of those mass social conformity things. The school doesn't have a police force and if enough pupils stop wearing the uniform then what can the school really do to enforce it? Although if all the pupils realise that, then where could the rebellion end?

Back when I was in my final year of highschool, I and my econ class were given this really last minute shite test or something to do. There wasn't enough time to study for it and the teacher was just being a bit of a pisstaker because she was behind on giving out the coursework.

I tried pointing out to everybody that what would the teacher realistically do if we all refused to do it within 24 hours. Fail us all? How would that make her look etc?

Didn't get a single bite. Everyone turned up except me (I already had a uni place by this point so gave little to no fucks). Not surprising though because I'm not exactly the most charismatic person.

Anyway, I ended up writing my own "get out of class" letter from my parents to explain why I didn't show up. The teacher/school didn't give enough of a poo poo to scrutinise it and i sat the test the following week with enough time to study for it.

Thinking back on it, after all the years I'd spent conforming to the rules and trying to do the best for anyone in authority (ie the school/parents) it was probably the first actual "grown up" thing I did.

My year got ties removed from the school uniform because we were feral monsters who kept on taking advantage of the fact they could be weaponised

School uniforms are loving wank but having been to a poo poo school rife with bullying I reckon there probably is something to the whole ‘it’s so the kids with all the nice clobber don’t have yet another thing to bully the poorer kids about’ thing

They’re still gonna find something because bullies are horrible little cunts mind, so maybe it doesn’t matter that much

Funny thing is I've never seen anyone bullied by conspicuous consumption or lack thereof in Czechia, where uniforms are basically non-existent.

Could just be a coincidence (though there was a plenty of bullying I've seen over the years) but if anything I think the focus on appearance from school uniforms might make the problem worse, since as noted you can just use other status symbols. Or maybe it's just Britain being a very class/status obsessed country.

It's the later.

But also just teens are feral monsters, they'll always find something about someone in a other social group that's different and really just go for it. Different colour of hair, cheap brand of shoes, wrong taste in music, whatever.

Which is why the uniform thing is nonsense, if you all wear the same uniform they'll just find something else if they are inclined to bully

I happen to have recently sat next to a few people who were accused of some form of fraud involving some very clever and also very despicable ways of tricking vulnerable people into withdrawing large amounts of cash for them.

These people, and money launderers, are why banks now look twice at large cash withdrawals. They're not giving you a hard time for shits and giggles, or to enable the grand NWO plot to enslave us all into a cashless society.

When I worked in anti money laundering, you were much, much more likely to get your transactions very closely scrutinised for 9800-9999 than you were for just withdrawing 20k.

People seemed to think there was just a trigger at 10k and anything else didn’t matter.

Yeah I paid more than that to a builder once and did it by withdrawing £250-500 at a time from cash machines over several weeks before the bill was due. HSBC didn't contact me and nothing happened. They probably just assume that a casino got it, which as everyone knows is better for the economy than building affordable houses.

Sunak refused to fully fund repairs of England’s crumbling schools, says ex-official

Rishi Sunak refused to properly fund a school rebuilding programme when he was chancellor, despite officials presenting evidence that there was “a critical risk to life” from crumbling concrete panels, the Department for Education’s former head civil servant has said.

After the department told Sunak’s Treasury that there was a need to rebuild 300 to 400 schools a year in England, he gave funding for only 100, which was then halved to 50, said Jonathan Slater, the permanent secretary of the department from 2016 to 2020.

Dumb question incoming: I have to do an entry form before travelling to a country, with the official advice saying it must be done "up to three days before entry".

Does "up to three days before" mean the time limit to complete is three days before entry, or does it mean we can only complete it in the three days before entry?

I think the latter, my girlfriend the former.

Sabine is and always has been kinda meh. I don't judge folks harshly for watching her stuff since for a general audience she probably doesn't do a bad job of explaining particle physics topics in an accessible way, but she has always had a bad case of 'subject matter expert thinks they have something worthwhile to say about areas in which they are not a subject matter expert'.

Even in particle she made a name for herself by adopting a very contrary stance to the status quo. There's a lot she got right in her criticisms of modern particle physics but she very quickly turned the reaction into 'big science wants me to shut up see my monetised youtube video to find out more'.
