How they cost units seems a bit broken to me in 10th. They under-cost killing stats and over-cost mobility (see custodes bikes versus custodian guard or the entire GK index).

I think I'm going to end up getting 2 or 3 Neurolictors if I build up my tyranids. Love ehat I've seen from the goonhammer review.

College Slice
For anyone still mulling over which new Tyranids to buy, I found a really useful review that explains how flexible the new kits are for things like customisation & magnetisation, and what spare parts you get at the end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nw7n4syLIM

I'm stoked to find that that swapping between Biovore & Pyrovore is really easy, which takes a little bit of sting out of paying around £1 per point for the new model. The new Lictor also seems like a fantastic kit design too. I've managed to find a very cheap Tyrand Prime body and plan to try converting a second lictor from the spare parts.

For now I've ordered one each of the new kits that I don't mind owning multiples of (1 Norn, 1 Vore, 1 Lictor), as I'm sure many will show up in discounted boxes over the coming months & years. In particular the Norn is rumoured to be part of the next Xmas Tyranid battleforce. For the same reason I'm avoiding Deathleaper & Neurolictor, as without conversion those kits can only be built one way and I probably will never want to own more than one.

neurolictors struck me as the sort of cheap speedbump/disruption unit you run in multiples but that's a really crowded niche for nids and i doubt you'll want multiple different ones. it'll come down to points i think

What, Neurolictors are absolutely sick. 60 point lone operative with infiltrate that can potentially hand out -1 to hit AND +1 to being wounded if they fail a battleshock test.

Most other armies will gladly pay 100 points for a unremarkable lone operative character with nothing else.

yeah goonhammer thinks neurolictors are an automatic three-of in most nid lists and I’m inclined to agree

I think the Devastator equivalent is meant to be the combination of Hellblasters, Eradicators, Eliminators (las-fusil edition), Desolation Squads, and maybe Infernus Squads -- that's why I said "grav guns as a heavy weapon option somehow." I miss the idea of devastator squads but if the correct way to build a devastator squad is always going to be "A bunch of guys with the same weapon, god drat it why do I have to buy multiple boxes of devastators to build this squad right," then splitting devastators up into five or six kits, each of which is all outfitted with a single weapon option... understandable? EDIT: And then splitting them up between the different armor types to represent what sort of strengths and weaknesses each sort of heavy weapon ought to have (e.g. Desolators are a backfield objective holder that can toss damage down the field and do indirect fire, so maybe don't give them heavy armor) is just the next logical decision along that path.

Yeah there's nothing formal I don't think but Primaris squads wear the old tactical/assault/devastator markings. The ones you listed all have the Devastator "A" symbol, Inceptors have the assault "X" and so on. I don't know if there's a case for a one to one counterpart to firstborn Devastators at this point.

Yeah if you had said pink and blue and yellow and orange out loud it would sound like too much, but the way you painted they come across like poisonous coral creatures, which is a cool take on the more crustacean style nids.

i wasn't disparaging them! my point was that you'll want nlictors OR lictors OR units like leapers etc. and the main decider will be points.

although it occurs to me that that -1 to hit is pretty mediocre because of the timing of its battleshock ability.

I think we're basically only missing Grav Cannons, Heavy Bolters and Lascannons at this point.

I think most people would probably agree that between Heavy Intercessors and the new Sternguard Veterans we probably don't need any more Heavy Bolter units. You could conceivably retool the Las-fusil option for Eliminators as the Lascannon equivalent but you could also just have something similar to the Desolation squad with Lascannons.

That just leaves Grav Cannons which I do think are the most likely option, probably on another Gravis suit like the Eradicators. If you did Gravis Grav Cannons and Tacticus Lascannons you'd have a nicely balanced 3/3 split for Gravis/Tacticus between Eradicators/Inceptors/Grav Cannons and Desolation/Hellblasters/Lascannons.

e: I completely forgot about Inceptors with auto-bolters. We definitely don't need any more Bolters then.

That is hilarious, because everything about Suppressors and how they've been handled is hilarious, but even if we take those into account I don't think they fit anywhere into the "What's the Primaris equivalent of Firstborn Devastator squads?" They're more akin to one of those new things Primaris gets that don't have any equivalent in Firstborn armies, like Reivers or Inceptors or Bladeguard.
