pseudodragon posted:Taka and Mita will either be in yusho contention from beating up people they should be a billion times better than or go like 3-12 from being completely broken. Mitakeumi has not been the same since COVID. I don't know if he just has long COVID or there's a lingering injury he's carrying, but he has just struggled performing consistently ever since.

He's clearly not the same dude, but he managed a 9-6 at M6 a couple tourneys ago so even if he's not the S/K lock anymore, he should still be able to beat up Makuuchi/Juryo tweeners. But if he can't pull off a big tourney here, he might as well pack it up.

I can forsee him hanging in lower Makuuchi or upper Juryo for enough years to qualify for elder stock and becoming a coach. Honestly the ideal is to be a rank and filer who stays around the lower makuuchi division but does well enough to have a good tournament every once in a while. Just score some 9-6 tournaments and draw a nice salary until you're in your upper 30s, then retire and become a coach. Hopefully avoiding a crippling injury as well.

There's no way Mita doesn't qualify for elder stock, he was sekiwake for like 4 years. e: yeah you just need one appearance in the titled ranks to get kabu. I'd be astonished if Mita doesn't have a plan, he's always been quite popular, and even though his ozeki stint was brief, he did have one. I suspect he's got stock lined up and will retire rather than fall to juryo. Kenning fucked around with this message at 01:27 on Sep 7, 2023 |

And there's no other former Ozeki in his stable even including the current coaches so he's probably got the inside track for the stablemaster job if he wants it. Current boss is just 55 so he won't be able to make a clean takeover, but of guys needing a Kabu, he's probably 4th in line behind Terunofuji, Takakeisho and Takayasu. Everybody I picked last time is now M5 or better! It'll be hard to beat that record, but my only goal this time is to further develop my brand of fantasy sumo. Y/O: Hoshoryu Kirishima Takakeisho S/K: Nishikigi Wakamotoharu Tobizaru M1-5: Hokutofuji Shonannoumi Tamawashi M6-10: Midorifuji Endo Kotoeko M11+: Hokuseiho Takarafuji Atamifuji I know Nishikigi may be injured, but I had a great time rooting for him in my first basho so I gotta show my support. Hokutofuji was a blast to watch as well, love watching him get pumped up in his pre-match ritual. I gotta pick Midorifuji just for that tense match vs Kirishima when he kicked the fallen sagari off the dohyo before the gyoji could get to it. It was such a badass move and I know he's gonna do his best this basho. I'm not very familiar with most of the M11+ guys so I just picked Hokuseiho. Fingers crossed the big guy has got things figured out

I've been impressed with between-basho talk of Kotonowaka, so I'm giving him a slight nod over WMH who's still keeping the family mojo and I hope he also has a great run this time. M1-5 is mostly longer-standing dudes on their way down to retirement, with the exception of the M5s. I'm choosing age and experience of youth and beauty this time. Same with the bottom of the banzuke, gimme the old dudes and let's see if they can take it to these whippersnappers one more time. pseudodragon posted:Yeah, it's just 1 S/K+, 20 Makuuchi, or 30 J/M so he's good there.
