It seems like a response to huge and other meta-breaking shapes, as though they can adjust the height and angle of that weapon.

For anyone interested in it. This Saturday is the next NHRL stream. Quickly looked through the entries list, don't think there are any surprise Battlebots teams showing up to the event. Just the normal NHRL battlebot teams.

Also Ray Billings took his 30lb Disinformation down to Brazil for a robot event. They have full streams of their fights, but I haven't watched it, not sure if I will. But here is at least 1 fight.

Another mostly good event. Some questionable judge and ref decisions, but kind of expected with so many fights.

Jeff Waters of Team Jackpot won the 3lb weight class with at least a version of their minibot they run on Battlebots. Which also is unique as it doesn't have a kinetic weapon like the normal winners at NHRL events.

Very interesting semifinals/finals of the 3lb 4 bots switching partners like that, interesting result and they all qualify.

Ray Billings & Martin Mason are teaming up this weekend for the Proving Grounds match. All these weeks of proving grounds matches with various teams is going to make it pretty hard for them I think to get a 50 bot field for Battlebots once they can get filming dates locked in. Maybe they'll do a prechampionship tournament for all the teams that are on the edge.

0.050" heat treated 4130 steel chassis on a 1lb bot because I make terrible decisions. Higher voltage than a lot of 3lb bots and all brushless for good measure.

What's the stats on the lifting arm? Brushless servo for fine control? Or just a gearbox that you stop before it locks up? Electrical end stops maybe...

Thanks, will give those a watch soon, I scrolled down enough to confirm this includes your new bot from up the page, I hope you did well. Or at had fun at least.

Edit: I'm such a muppet. I only just put together the colours of Outlier and your avatar/logo.

Holy gently caress, that fight against Swoop, well played Mike, well played. Kept your cool and didn't give up despite losing like half your bot.

If you're talking for 1lb, the winner was ...... Outlier ....... From what I recall it took a bit for the decision.

Some extra detail: Late in the fight you'll notice one side stops working, starts up again, then stops for good. At the end of the fight the other side stopped too. Took the bot apart to see what happened and I managed to melt the little 3d printed motor covers enough that they bound up the drive motors in the final. Pried them off and the drive motors are running happy as ever. Going to rework some bits on the lifter assembly so it doesn't get removed the same way again and set it up for better torque transfer so it should be running better next time.

Indeed I was, I don't know about you but that looked like a fight where I'd be happy for either person to win it was so close and so well fought by both sides. Regardless, congratulations to the winner, it was well earned.

End Game returns to defend its title, joined by fellow Giant Nut winners Tantrum and SawBlaze. The killer trio have automatic entries to the Golden Bolt Championship Tournament at the end of this thrilling six episode series. There are five open spots left, and each will be claimed by the winner of a Sin City Slugfest. In each Slugfest, eight robots take on a single elimination gauntlet. About time they released these episodes! Should be fun although funny the final tournament will be 3 giant nut winners and 5 bots that won their slugfest brackets, but (likely) weren't good enough to have a deep run in the main championship. I'd bet on Sawblaze adding the golden bolt to their collection of trophies.

I wonder if this means they have a firmer grasp on when they might be able to start filming for the next season, or if they have a better idea of if/when the strike might be ending.

Always tough to handicap with a sport so rock-paper-scissors. Sawblaze is very counter-meta, so it and Huge have a lot of favorable matchups, but then if the bracket shakes out that it's not up against a 4WD vert it gets iffier. Like, it was pretty fortuitous for them to have Ribbot knock out Hydra, who'd beat them in the earlier rounds. Something like this probably happens with every champ except Bite Force.

Anyway, I think Minotaur has the biggest pool of bots that it beats most of the time, so I'll take them.

Rumour has it that there is some motivation to end it in the next week or two, buuut if that doesn't happen, the shooting schedule before Christmas shutdown is hosed anyway so there's no reason to end it before it December

It's possible the strikes are the ultimate reason they couldn't film in the fall this year. But even before the writers strike, Battlebots was looking at potentially not being able to film until early 2024 due to the F1 race setup and construction. I'm sure the main arena has a nice sound studio and might be fine for filming, I'm not so sure the pits and outdoor filming bits wouldn't be a challenge with construction nearby. The F1 Paddock is like 0.25 miles up the road and there's grandstands up / going up right next to the Battlebots building.

Ahh, that's right, I remember the posts about the construction stuff. I'm also wondering if a late winter/early spring shooting period would be more conducive to some of the pit work, given the complaints about the static and such when they were filming in Nevada's august temps
