Lid posted:https://twitter.com/WillOspreay/status/1700233785198182851?t=i0JNbQKmhLtVXA8ohu9zow&s=19 It came out that they're not paying talent still (previously closed, twice, due to no money; at one point early on they tried to buy the rights to an MDickie game with the compensation being "you get to meet the people who work here"), their official defense of it was "we are, except one of them is on a payment/buy now pay later plan", and when people like their current Openweight champ Robbie X responded to it with "I haven't been" they've been Twitter-blocked for it Ospreay is their current world champ So minimum half their belts probably just got vacated just this week alone, and I wouldn't be shocked if they're closing a third time. Ideally the game stops here, rather than trying to pull the farce a fourth and see if this will be the time it can be gotten away with

As I understand it RevPro is the big UK indie. Is that right? I see they have a regular London show, is it any good? Do their stars attend it regularly?

Well don't expect Will Ospreay but you'll likely get Trent Seven, Michael Oku, Ricky Knight Jr (nephew of AEW's Saraya), and depending on their other bookings there will be guys like Dan Moloney when not on New Japan tours. And talented younger guys like Jordon Breaks, Leon Slater, Callum Newman But Zack Sabre Jr & Will Ospreay are unlikely to turn up outside of the bigger shows at York Hall or the recent show at the Copper Box. And aye, RevPro are #1 in the UK at this point. They'll do near 1000 at York Hall

The 229 shows are always a lot of fun. And the venue is much nicer than the old one (The Cockpit, if you had to get up to use the toilet, half the crowd would think you were doing a run-in). You Occasionally get a few of the big-guns (Ospreay has worked a few 229s this year) but it's primarily the RevPro mainstays, which sounds like what you're looking for. I will say, it's unallocated seating but the venue is small enough that there aren't really any bad seats

Had a parent sitting next to me who was clearly unsure of how to feel about his son chanting "BUS-SY!" Also, the lucha main event loving ruled, and Vikingo did two separate things that did not seem possible to me even though I witnessed them. Putting it as an HM in the Best Matches thread.

Since this is the indie thread I just wanted to let y'all know if you're in the northeast check out her matches, she just had one against Mercedes Martinez, a personal friend of mine made the PWI500 List at 467! Ruthless Lala, has been Senton-ing, lariat-ing everybody for years. I remember her being in a tiny bar in Alton, Tx having doing a lucha promotion, and motherucking Penta was there. This was the time during the early days of Lucha Underground when he was still Pentagon Jr. Staredowns, Cero Miedos, loving LOUD chops. I'm so happy for her, she's busted her rear end over and over, and I'm just proud to see her get recognized and outrank Colt Canana no less. Anyway I didn't know where else to post this. Just a happy day for my friend. https://www.instagram.com/p/CxEU5cZvqVL/?hl=en Jiro fucked around with this message at 07:00 on Sep 15, 2023 |

https://twitter.com/EnjoyWrestle/status/1703105379545043182 Bummed that Kidd Bandit had to leave but some great matches so far, Ray Lynn and The Runway vs MSP and Angelo Carter getting announced later tonight as well. Probably the last Mr. Small's Enjoy show of the year since that venue is hard to get consistent shows for them (and honestly they'd like a bigger venue in PGH that they can afford) PA Sports Commission is really brutal to their growth and ability to have shows

born on a buy you posted:Eddie Kingston is dead to me. Claudio was right about him such a bummer; I get Eddie’s desire to prioritize his health due to having two titles to defend now but this is the third time he’s cancelled on DEFY with under 24 hours notice which is a massive problem for DEFY. To be fair, I think he may have been ill one of those times? They always have a make-good that’s pretty great but idk if they can get Mox to pop over at the drop of a hat like the first time this happened. Love the guy, but I’m still gonna pout a little bit.

Nation Extreme Wrestling's most recent show is up for free: NEW 14 I put a ton of work into editing it, and it's easily one of our best shows. The main event is bloody as hell and had a ton of build across multiple promotions in the PNW, and it's gotten some buzz in the past week after Gabe hyped us up.

Saw my first Finnish indie-show in (literally) 20 years. The last time they hadn't had time to train even a single local talent. This was the second annual Northern Queens event and featured exclusively women and non-binary folks. They had two late cancellations (illness & ???), but managed to save the situation by turning a tag match into singles. They had managed to get some relative well-known names (Max the Impaler and Allie Katch, not sure about the others) and based on some FB posts this was one of the most "star-studded" shows around here. As I haven't followed the local scene at all, I was somewhat worried about two things: wrestling being embarrassingly bad and audience being embarrassingly silent (as Finnish crowds tend to be). Wrestling ended up being adequate and the crowd was pretty good. About 250 people (by my estimation), no awkward silent moments, and everyone was generally cheering actively for the babyfaces and joining the basic chants, fun times, although could be better. Gender ratio was close to 50:50 which was pretty cool. Also nice to see that the promotion is heavily emphasizing anti-bigotry. Not exactly given in such a niche scene. The first match (Stella vs. Ava Everett ) wasn't technically very good with some weak offense from both, but the crowd was into it and Ava managed to heel it up to keep the audience in the match. During the break Max the Impaler came to kill local geeks and stole the smallest girl, who was never seen again. Allie Katch vs. Nightshade was slightly better than the other two undercard matches, although Allie's kind-of-constantly-sexual-assaultish offensive is pretty sketchy. Nikita vs. Nina Samuels was quite fun with a small local babyface overcoming foreign bully heel, even if it was a bit botchy. The main event between Regina Rosendahl vs. Max the Impaler was legit pretty decent match and clearly the MOTN. A classic battle between the local ace and a huge foreign monster. Max's NWA title was on the line, so the winner was forgone conclusion, but it was nice hard-hitting brawl with some funny ref-scaring hijinks. While Regina was super popular, the crowd dynamics could have been better as Max didn't really get any heel heat because the crowd generally liked them. During the finish the ref didn't count the three, which is always a letdown, but at least he immediately called the bell, so they didn't have to do awkward extra spot. I had good time, have to check their other shows later this year. Kennel fucked around with this message at 20:11 on Sep 30, 2023 |
