I will say, I used to think all hoofed mammals were like cows. Docile overall and easy to move.

Then I worked in hoofstock at a small zoo, and I will take working with almost anything else ever again. There is a reason some of them you never see in zoos, like the Cape Town buffalo. Those things kill lions. The sable antelope was bad enough, the big male would go after the truck used when the yard was being cleaned, and he hated the vet tech fierce to the point he tried to gore her.

In other words, Mark Trail fits right in with all that.

My mom's neighbors keeps alpacas and chickens. Apparently in case of coyotes the chickens know to run to the alpacas for shelter, who then kick the coyotes to death. I don't know if this is just theory or they've had to deal with a dead coyote before.

Alpacas work in shifts to watch for danger and are pretty happy to let other farm critters hang around if they aren’t competing for food. Chickens probably love having the ground torn up a little by the alpacas.

Hi! This thread is why I bought an account, too. It's my favorite, and probably the best thread on this forum, if only because it's a massive repository of so many comics of so many kinds. (Check out the Newspaper Spider-Man thread too, if you haven't yet. You can just jump into any page at random to get started.)

I've come to treat Gil Thorp strips as mere flashbulb-lit moments scattered here and there through a storyline. Of course it doesn't make any sense, we're only seeing tiny disconnected parts of what's going on.

Gil Thorp definitely reads better in a huge batch and I've come around to liking it. The way it jumps around looks odd at first, but it actually lets the story progress in a decent clip compared to strips like Mary Worth and Rex Morgan where the pacing is interminable.

And it would be pretty funny if the thing with Gil's wife builds up to the two of them deciding to become swingers.

God, that crosshatching still bugs me. Not as bad as the scrot-n-pube couch, but still...

It's been ages since Batiuk showed children in either of his comics and they only had one line just so an old person can sneer at them. Batiuk's contempt for anyone under the age of 45 isn't as overt as Kelley's, but it's not any less annoying.

We're supposed to have such deep and abiding hatred for these two relatively normal guys that we can't help but detect the stink of loser wafting off of them. I know it's been said over and over again, but this strip is bizarre in its spittle-flecked rage against young people; more so than any other strip that's run ITT (including Foob, which is bizarre in its own unique ways).
