Next year I have to go to Los Angeles for a wedding, and the furthest west I’ve been is Chicago. Presumably there’s something to do in that city.

CAUTION: POST QUALITY UNDER CONSTRUCTION

I figured I would post in here since I mentioned it yesterday in a GDT, but still waiting to hear the results of my mom’s testing. The oncologist and hospitalist definitely think it’s cancer, just not sure what type. My mom said the growth started earlier this year, from something quartersize, to the current 4-ish inches in diameter. The X-rays show it went below the skin also, so they’re doing more imaging on that, and plan to do a bone marrow biopsy in the area. Initially the first few doctors thought it looked like basal cell carcinoma, but the hospitalist today said he thought it had grown too quickly to be basal cell, if my mom’s timeline was to be believed.

They also have been doing more imaging on her upper right shoulder where the boney lesions appear, and were going to do abdominal and chest CT and MRIs.

When I first got her in yesterday, she had a white blood cell count of 51,500, and they put her on Zosyn, then eventually (and still) Vancomycin. The internist had told us she officially had sepsis per criteria and the testing completed. In a little under 24 hours, it brought the count down to about 48,000, but it seems like if it were just the sepsis, it should have gone down a lot more? Which makes me worried it’s due more to the cancer than the sepsis.

So overall I’m in a little better place than yesterday mentally, but I’m still worried about how far along she might be or where it spread, and then what her prognosis will look like.

And making it worse, my dad is the definition of human poo poo, and basically expressed no interest in going to the hospital to see her, because he’s mainly worried about their little dog. When I brought up some of the stuff, he mentioned needing to take the dog to the vet because he couldn’t lose “both of them”, and I called him out on his general lovely attitude and history and we haven’t talked since. My mom doesn’t even really want him to come to the hospital anyway.

As long as we can somehow eliminate douchebags who flex in the mirror and huddle with their bros around benches with multiple sets of dumbbells to post on social media.

I've been asked this a few times too, and also had people walk by and murmur "so they're just wearing masks all the time now??" to their companions, and I never know how to respond. Maybe silence and a bewildered stare is better if I don't have anything witty. :smith:

Just get slightly uncomfortably close to them and jovially say 'Well I caught COVID and I know it's no big deal but my wife said I should be nice to other people' and then turn away just a little and let out a big ol' cough.

Mina Kimes is great and the ESPN nerd circle with Barnwell and Dominique's podcasts are good as well. Athletic Football Show is really good

and Around the NFL is solid, though it relies way more on soundboard / bits then others.

Honestly, if you need something that fast, head to a slightly nicer department store like Macy's or Nordstrom. They have tons of suits on racks, and hopefully you can find one that fits you well enough. I'm tall and still managed to find a sports coat off the rack at a Nordstrom's when I really needed something. I doubt they can tailor anything in two days though if you need it. You might have to suffer through a slightly baggy suit.
