So Gil Thorp currently is like the anti-Mary Worth or The Phantom, in that it's basically moving at light speed. So it has been mentioned before and even foreshadowed but in a way where it's mentioned in one strip and then literally the next day they're talking about another plotline and then the next day it's another, entirely separate plotline that makes the entire thing move at lightning speed.

It also means we don't get to see the full conversation the Thorps had, which is a bit weird
