Posting here for Verizon promotions: Upgrades: if you are on a premium data plan, and it’s a XR or newer it’s a $800 trade in. New lines: if you do unlimited plus you can get $800, or $1000 if it’s the unlimited ultra. Verizon is literally taking any trade in iPhone 3G or newer as long as the battery is not overheating. $800 for all with the plus plan. Dave2D on YouTube said you can only set it to one action. You have to long press to initiate the action. If you just press it, it will show you what action is assigned and tell you to long press to initiate it.

I tried the share name and photo set up on IOS. When I texted my wife after setting it up, it sent the message to her as just my number and not my contact information that she had saved. I deleted the set up but it is still showing my texts and calls as my number and not my stuff with my wife’s contact of me. It seems like this would be useful if I was talking to someone new and I needed to give them my info but this has it set up for contacts only.

I assumed it was short press for mute and long press for something else but apparently it’s only ling press. Gonna be pissed if the iPhone 16 Pro has that capability and it doesn’t get rolled out in an iOS update.

I guess I'm in the minority here, because I think the implementation is great! I'll be setting my phone to always be in silent mode, and using the Action Button to turn on the camera from lock / act as a shutter. There's been so many times where I've missed a shot because swiping from the lock screen didn't work for some reason, or trying to long press on the camera button resulted in launching the lock screen configurator (really the worst design choice for customized lock screens). Now I'll be able to start holding the button as I take it out of my pocket and (hopefully) it'll be ready to go once it's in position. I don't want to have it accidentally be taking pictures in my pocket so having to hold it is exactly what I want, too. I also love that you can run an arbitrary Shortcut on it; that's something that there's no excuse for it not to do, but Apple has definitely made ridiculous constraints like that in the past.

Having it as a dedicated torch button is useful, I always find the weird hold and press method on the lockscreen is kind of fiddly if you have your hands full. Just having it on a button would be much more handy.

So if StandBy didn't work for me the past month+ I've been beta testing iOS 17 and it's not working for me now on the RC, is it just not going to work for me at all? Despite being in landscape mode on a charge stand, my phone acts like it hasn't rotated and StandBy doesn't appear. The phone charges totally fine, but no StandBy. I've turned the feature off and back on in Settings, restarted my phone, etc. but no dice. I submitted this in the Feedback app a while back but it's never been resolved. Maybe it's the charge stand that's the issue? But like I said, it's having no trouble charging the phone.

So it turns out that the new UBC C airpod pros have lossless wireless bundled in, which audio people have been waiting for. Apple went out of their way to avoid talking about it. From this we can infer that the current iphone can't do it, on purpose, but they'll sure as poo poo make it a premier feature on the iphone 16 babyyyy!

Apple clearly wanted people to think that the main difference was just the USB C. But then it came out that it has a whole new audio platform? Lossless 20 bit high quality audio. This is a big deal. Audio-focused people have been wondering since the first Airpods were released, when we would receive a standard that enabled high quality playback. But, for whatever reason, they are framing the technology to only work with the Apple Vision Pro (the 3k headset)? That makes zero sense though; this codec will clearly work with the iphone too. By far the most likely scenario is that Apple wanted to reserve lossless audio for the next iphone. It can't be overstated how scummy that would be, but there's not many ways to interpret the whole thing. Make no mistake though, if you care about audio quality, it would be incredibly foolish to buy anything but the USB C Airpod Pros right now. Right now though, as far as I know the only USB C Airpods are the Pro 2, which kinda makes sense; only the new model has the new connector, so they need to support both for at least a few years.
