ever since moving to NYC a decade ago i have never understood the concept of "oyster bars" (I have a ton of vegetarian friends who react basically like Gareth did, so i've never actually been to one). i've had oysters a couple times and thought they were a strange novelty that only made sense in the context of spending way too much money on very fancy, but not very good, food. the idea of people going for dollar oysters at happy hour always baffled me

after listening to the history of oysters in this city... gently caress, man, i am honestly still no closer to understanding any of this

Can you please list out the bars with dollar oyster happy hours in NYC for me to make sure I never go to them? Thank you.

Behind the Bastards has done like 8 episodes on Musk, usually just reading from the various filings in lawsuits against him.

A recent Past Times live show in Australia mentioned the Crutchy Push, and hey got all excited about something they covered in a previous episode appearing again. That was a fun way for it to be introduced to me, so I went back and listened.

Is The Crutchy Push the one with Valentino and his foul-mouthed mother?

"I was only telling him to go to Halifax!"

Similarly, the Fenians got a full episode to explain who they were and what they were about, and then when Dave brought them up in later episodes, he didn't have to explain that stuff and bog down the story. Everyone (even Gareth) knew what to expect when the Fenian Brotherhood showed up in Australia.

Karen Kilgariff has consistently brought amazing energy to the show every time she's on there. If Dave or Gareth had to step away from the show briefly (family emergency, need personal time for a week or two, et cetera), I'd immediately nominate Kilgariff to hold down the temporary opening if they wanted to keep the show going.

There is a reason my favorite murder became such a big podcast and it wasn’t just the true crime

It was also the hosts and their fantastic rapport and energy

Yo, I've been a longtime listener of Behind the Bastards, and I've been looking to break into this'un after listening to a couple of host crossovers, though I kinda bounced off the last couple of times.

Any particular recommendations for episodes/series? I just got done listening to their one on the NY Fire of 1835 last night, and thought it was fuckin' hilarious at points.

"The Rube" is the all-timer episode, and episode #323 is probably one of the fall-down funniest episodes.

If you want to know some of the more nefarious details of Enron, Iraq War, or how we got to the opioid crisis in the US, those episodes are really informative if a little bleak. Also, there is a subset of listeners, myself included, that enjoy hearinf Gareth break down over the course of an episode (Caning of Charles Sumner being my favorite).

Anything with Patton Oswalt or Wil Anderson are good too, especially Boston Corbett and The Cereal Men.
