Oh wow, that makes it look so much better! I think that set is pretty lacklustre as is, but the lights improve it no end. :3:

Hot take: Lego lighting kits are cool, but they're even cooler when you exercise the restraint that the people designing them can never muster and only put in, like, half the lights.

This one has the fewest lights of all of them for the tranquil garden. There's some wild poo poo out there.

They're always lit up with obnoxiously blue LEDs that have no place on the model as well.

Are there any kits that have brightness control on the board as well?

The garden looks nice.

Yeah tastefully lit lego can look really neat but most lighting kits have no restraint and light up a bunch of stuff that shoudn't be lit. Most of the Star Wars lighting kits are hilariously bad.

That teahouse looks good though, even if it gives it some Las Vegas vibes.

I wouldn’t mind adding a light kit to my Seinfeld set, as in that case it makes a degree of sense as it’s not pretending to be anything other than a studio set.

What are you talking about, I need my lego set to be seen from space and eventually burst into flames, which will hopefully be even brighter than the lighting set.

The lighting kit for the Seinfeld set should be a big fuckoff red task light parked outside Jerry's door.

I like the lights for a few things like R2 and the infinity gauntlet but mostly the poor design and fiddling with the wiring makes it a pass on various sets.

I got a lighting kit for central perk it is pretty nice.

I also got a kit for the ideas treehouse, but the pieces didnt fit at all and i gave up. Tollerances seemed off. The lights were all multicolourded and blinking like christmas decorations anyway.

I did a fun whole knockoff set with lighting and it was a bit easier with the lights integrated into the instructions, but the end result was just as awkward and messy as fitting one aftr the fact. I wish they'd done some work creating cable runs and stuff, there were a couple of specialised parts for holding the cables but it was 90% squeezing tiny delicate cables between standard lego brick connections.

The main lighting kits to me that can look good (and even these vary wildly) is modulars. They have these awesome interiors that just go completely dark once the set is complete. I really like the look of a lit up interior with street lights or whatever, but even those usually light up a bunch of silly stuff and use LEDs that are way too bright.

I've looked at them for Star Wars sets and the reality is that other than the afterburners nothing really needs to be lit up generally, so to make it worth it they usually seem to do insanely gaudy poo poo like this

And that's not even taking into account that most are built in a way that leaks light everywhere. With most Lego sets I think money would better spent on some nice ambient lighting for the display shelf.

I like my lights too:

They do vary wildly in quality and some do blink a little obnoxiously. I also do think the light bleed on some of the kits isn't the greatest, but they do look great when you do it right.

I’m not worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as Carbs but thank you

I built the technic rover last night and I forgot how much longer it takes to put together a technic set relative to its size than it does most system sets. I took a gummy in the middle and by the time I was having to like attach the sensor arm thing and work out how the gearing worked hoo boy

Technic reminds me sometimes of the old school instructions where you just had to play spot the difference and not get a lot of guidance, although many steps I had no problem with actually did have some highlights or callouts.

Anyway it’s a cool model; the play functions work but I’m not as enamored with them as I thought I would be, and it feels like the helicopter could have been integrated into the set better somehow or left out.

Yeah, you have made suggestions and I have looked into them for sure :)

I found that the Ferrari's instructions I got from YWOBB had an outline around the pices that made it a lot easier to play "Guess where?"
