Azerbaijan have started attacking Armenia again, the Russian 'peacekeepers' aren't intervening, so it looks like the CSTO is likely to disintegrate. Lot's of countries have been threatening to get involved in exactly this scenario, including Iran on the Armenian side, and Turkey on the Azeri side.

Things could get real complicated real fast.

Don't worry, I'm sure a regional power in decline currently waging a war of aggression against a neighbour it had security agreements with will be able to convince both sides to resolve the issue diplomatically.

I think you might be surprised at just how willing Iran is to stick it's dick in to another regional conflict. There is a surprising amount of co-operation between Armenia and Iran, and Iran is very keen indeed to gain regional influence.

I know about that. I don't think they are going to touch this one. There has been no buildup on the border, they can't and won't respond in anything close to that level, if I'm wrong then I'm an idiot on the internet whose wrong.

e: The Iranians will find a reason to not act on threats they haven't even followed up much beyond words and which would almost certainly spell disaster for the Iranian regime.

"Scientifically proven, rich and creamy."

In tangentially related news, Azerbaijan has launched another offensive against the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh enclave, which is backed by Armenia.

In recent history Azerbaijan has been backed by Turkey, while Armenia has been backed by Russia.

Al-Jazeera posted posted:

Armenia’s foreign ministry called on Russian peacekeeping troops in the region to intervene and stop what is said was Azerbaijan’s “full-scale aggression” against the local population.
---
Armenia has accused Azerbaijan of causing a months-long humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh after Baku last year blocked the sole road linking the mountainous region with Armenia. It is called the Lachin corridor, and Russian peacekeepers police it.

What does 'elite' mean in the modern Russian context, though? As far as I can tell, 'elite' is just a word to describe the dudes rich enough to actually buy decent equipment and the ranks to go with them.
