Rishi Sunak is considering weakening some of the government's key net zero commitments in a major policy shift.

It could include delaying a ban on the sales of new petrol and diesel cars and phasing out gas boilers, multiple sources have told the BBC. The PM is preparing to set out the changes in a speech in the coming days.

There is no suggestion that Mr Sunak is considering abandoning the legal commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. But he is expected to declare that other countries need to bear more of the burden of dealing with climate change.

If Mr Sunak presses ahead with the plan it would represent a significant shift in the Conservative Party's approach to net zero policy, as well as establishing a clear dividing line with the Labour Party.

According to multiple sources briefed on Downing Street's thinking, Mr Sunak would use the speech to hail the UK as a world leader on net zero. But he would also argue that Britain has over-delivered on confronting climate change and that other countries need to do more to pull their weight.

Clearly the reason he's done it. He knows that if he says that, Starmer will immediately copy the position.

He's been taking body language lessons. Shaking someone's hand while touching their elbow (ok he missed a bit) is supposed to indicate sincerity and warmth.

And Macron's body language (hand in pocket while shaking hands) apparently means:

quote:

A third mistake is to shake hands with your other hand in your pocket, on your hip, or behind your back, as this can indicate a lack of interest, confidence, or respect. To avoid these mistakes, always stand up when you shake hands, move around any obstacles, and keep your other hand visible and relaxed.25 Aug 2023

I literally just deleted a post i was gonna make complaining about this very thing with my GP.

Sent an appointment request because I've had covid for 2 weeks and starting to develop chest infection symptoms like the ones I've had on and off for the last year.

Infections that got me a couple of rounds of antibiotics, an inhaler and an appointment for asthma test in November the last time I came in.

I also mentioned that I was waiting for results from an xray I got for my last chest infection a few weeks back.

The response I got was:

"Thank you for your recent eConsult request. I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing covid symptoms. It is quite common for these to go on for several weeks, it often can take a long time to resolve. I hope you feel better soon. Kind regards, dr Fobemoff"

I've had this particularly doctor before (she's the on call doctor you get if you don't specify someone) and she pretty much always just says things are fine, go home.

I just wish I could remember the name of the doctor who i saw last time as he actually kept track of my records. He also said some disparaging things about one of the other doctors who had hosed up some tests for me previously. The kinda stuff that showed he actually gave a poo poo you know.

He even rang me up once a week while I had the infections to see if my condition was getting any better and if I needed more antibiotics or whatever.

She's going to force them to kick her out. Which is the right thing to do, as then they'll have to explain why and also why they didn't give her a hearing. Most people won't notice, but enough will. And the gauntlet has been officially thrown down by her pointing out that they're openly siding with a convicted paedophile and against her.

Eh, technically, they've shut down/taken over the CLP because the discussion of said paedophile reflects badly on the party (because he was supported by those loyal to the leadership) and it just so happens that the decision about candidacy for next year's election was due at the same time.
Labour HQ will have gently caress-all explaining to do when their chums in the media gloss over it.

Thanks to the poster who pointed out covid jabs are now available.

Got both COVID and flu shots yesterday.

Now if only I could stop wanting to feel like I want to die as I lie here shivering, unable to move either of my arms.

:shepicide:

Far less bad than either the flu or any form of covid mind, which everyone seems to be coming down with at work again now the weather has turned.

Small consolation and random garden report , I have harvested all the chillies I planted now and there shall be much pickling and tasty curries.
The poblanos didn't grow big enough this year as I need a much bigger pot, but they're bloody tasty, and I made possibly the tastiest curry I've ever made by combining home grown padrons with a Madras to make a sort of Jalfrezidras. Do recommend!

Not too impressed with basket of fire chillies, pretty plant, high yield, underwhelming chilli. Padrons, Birdseye and Poblanos all totally worthwhile in the UK. Everything else died.

Also tried growing a few exotic herbs like perilla leaves , first 30 seedlings failed even in heated trays apart from two which a cat then ate.

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.
Labour also has the sensible big brain policy of fully respecting the upcoming round of off-short licences, merely having promised not to grant any more.
