The face of the new economy
I have been on a contract with a company for almost 6 months and so they gave me an offer to move to them full time. They offered me 12k less a year than I'm making right now which I told my supervisor was insultingly low and I should be making at minimum what I do now considering what I've proven in my time here. So he's going to go talk to HR and see what happens.

I was shocked and started laughing when he told me the pay rate they wanted to give me.

While I def agree about getting as much cash as possible, what kind of benefits would you be getting switching from contract to fulltime? Would the cost difference in health insurance/retirement contributions (etc) make up for the pay difference?

From what I know because my contract company offers insurance as well so not a selling point for me. The added things are this:

5% 401k match
5 sick days
2 weeks PTO
11 paid holidays

The most hilarious thing is that they just did a IT town hall meeting last week talking about they found that they pay on the lower end of multinational companies and that they would be investing more into IT.

So yeah I made sure that was known as well.

As always, the answer is Costco. I think you can order online with a valid script, but they are also real easy and cheap to get an eye exam. My wife got a deal that if she got the exam (which she needed), she got a BOGO on frames, so she got regular and sunglasses.

I've been wearing zenni glasses and use the rx glasses i got from there all the time. I punched in the stuff from my VA rx and they send me glasses.

The plastic frame ones are snug, but wire frames are solid with no issues. I will also note, I have effectively no Rx for distance correction and am mostly correcting astigmatism. They're drop shipped from China so there might be problems every now and then, but their customer service is solid. Shipping is super fast, and they're probably the cheapest game in town.

As long as you don’t have weird eyes WP is a solid bet. I have multiple pairs from them stretching back almost a decade and they’re all still in great shape. $95 out the door isn’t bad at all. I used Zenni once in the past and they were cheap, but not great quality-wise and looking through them made my head hurt.

Also +1 for Zenni as far as online glasses. Very reasonably priced, and while they screwed up the prescription on one of my pairs, their customer service was excellent, they fixed the mistake quickly, easy, and painlessly

The last time I got new glasses (June 2021), I wound up just going to Shopko Optical. Remarkably, more than three years later, these frames and lenses are still holding up, which is wild to me, because I am legally blind without corrective lenses (20/220 vision) and have severe astigmatism.
