The head of the department was like the third PA ever and had a huge soft spot for it. He also almost got kicked out when he felt like someone took his parking spot and he called her a stupid oval office and it turned out to be the admin assistant for the head of the pharmacy program. of course he drove some lifted f-950 nonsense without a scratch on the truck bed and every sticker/flag you can imagine. dude was a body builder (lil puffy imo) and was on a ton of gear. we had this stupid as poo poo orientation weekend where we met each other and he showed up in a three piece, skin tight suit that I'm pretty sure was from express. that same weekend I ran into him and his buddy at chipotle and ate with them out of politeness or some poo poo I dunno. Anyway as soon as I sat down he continued his previous conversation which was about how much he loved seeing Ben Shapiro live the day prior. I have been on a contract with a company for almost 6 months and so they gave me an offer to move to them full time. They offered me 12k less a year than I'm making right now which I told my supervisor was insultingly low and I should be making at minimum what I do now considering what I've proven in my time here. So he's going to go talk to HR and see what happens. I was shocked and started laughing when he told me the pay rate they wanted to give me.

Would the cost difference in health insurance/retirement contributions (etc) make up for the pay difference?

From what I know because my contract company offers insurance as well so not a selling point for me. The added things are this: 5% 401k match 5 sick days 2 weeks PTO 11 paid holidays

Does anyone have places online for eye glasses? I know of Warby Parker, but could use any other good ideas. I need to get new glasses, but I'm not exactly thrilled about going to a store. Always feels like my options kind of suck.

The most hilarious thing is that they just did a IT town hall meeting last week talking about they found that they pay on the lower end of multinational companies and that they would be investing more into IT. So yeah I made sure that was known as well.

I think you can order online with a valid script, but they are also real easy and cheap to get an eye exam. My wife got a deal that if she got the exam (which she needed), she got a BOGO on frames, so she got regular and sunglasses.

I've been wearing zenni glasses and use the rx glasses i got from there all the time. I punched in the stuff from my VA rx and they send me glasses. The plastic frame ones are snug, but wire frames are solid with no issues. I will also note, I have effectively no Rx for distance correction and am mostly correcting astigmatism. They're drop shipped from China so there might be problems every now and then, but their customer service is solid. Shipping is super fast, and they're probably the cheapest game in town.

I have multiple pairs from them stretching back almost a decade and they’re all still in great shape. $95 out the door isn’t bad at all. I used Zenni once in the past and they were cheap, but not great quality-wise and looking through them made my head hurt.

Also +1 for Zenni as far as online glasses. Very reasonably priced, and while they screwed up the prescription on one of my pairs, their customer service was excellent, they fixed the mistake quickly, easy, and painlessly

Both cats are currently in a standoff with a squirrel who's taunting them by the screen door. It's very cute but also a little distracting since I'm coordinating a kid pick up from California.

Remarkably, more than three years later, these frames and lenses are still holding up, which is wild to me, because I am legally blind without corrective lenses (20/220 vision) and have severe astigmatism.
