(Yes, that's a real game. Look it up at your own risk)

Turning off adult content does work pretty well once you figure it out. Although some weird poo poo still slips through occasionally. A lot of porn games would bypass the filter by having a XXX patch available outside of steam. Haven't seen any of those recently, so maybe Valve caught on to that trick.

I'm pretty sure Steam is just inundated with porn games as I have never bought one and have only visited a couple of the extra ridiculous named ones pages to see if they were real (they were). Despite that my new release page is anime tittiez all the way down.
For the longest time I had adult games filtered, but I kept getting recommended games that I didn't see on steam without specifically searching for them by name because they were considered Adult content despite not being full of anime titties.

What I'm saying is Steam needs a "no anime titties" filter.

If you check again, the blocking options are more nuanced than they used to be.

If you add Dating Sim or Visual Novel to your blacklisted tags that works for killing 90% of anime titties, with only a relatively tiny amount of Actual Games You'd Play (assuming your not interested in dating sims) getting mistagged and hidden. Blacklisting the NSFW user tag works decently as well, seems to be fairly strictly used for tagging porn games by the community with relatively few games that Happen To Have Sexual Content But Are Not Porn Games getting it.

But despite me not doing that and having 'show me adult games' turned on, I almost never get tiddy games showing up, so don't know why steam thinks you want them so bad my guy. I can scroll down on the store landing for minutes without one showing up, they only ever crop up if I go through more than 2-3 recommendation queues a day when the queues start grabbing completely random poo poo.

I don't see them in my recommendations, unless I look at the new releases list. Then it's wall to wall point apps, which is why I'm assuming the store is just flooded with them.

And Sex With Hitler was one of the ones I clicked on because I couldn't belive it was real and allowed on steam. Not only is it a real game, it has multiple sequels. The internet was a mistake.

I'll try filtering visual novels, that should help, thank you.

Uncheck both boxes for "Frequent Nudity or Sexual Content" and "Adult Only Sexual Content". I could have swore they were turned off by default...

you are getting porn games recommended because some of the most successful games have both the Adult Content and Nudity tag: Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and now Baldur's Gate 3

you buy one of those, you say to steam I LOVE PORN

Those are under a separate category on the content filter, "Some Nudity or Sexual Content". I have that turned on and several Witcher games in my library and don't get anime filth in my reccs. At this point I have to assume I'm doing something wrong/right.

I don't use the Store Preferences checkboxes since they never seemed to work for me, either still showing me stuff I said not to, or hiding stuff like The Witcher 3, as was noted above. However, adding these exclude tags seems to work with reducing the amount of porn games I see on steam.

The RPG Maker tag has nothing to do with hentai (usually). I just get tired seeing the store page flooded with them.

I guess having bought Baldur's Gate 3 isn't going to help either, seeing as its bear sex was more explicit than CK3's implied bear sex :v:

that's what i meant, it doesn't show up if you have the global adult content filter on, but if you don't then it will randomly draw links from anything to porn and start recommending it

No, not really. multiple games with no sex in them, that are marked as all-ages, and have nothing worse than what you'd see in like, Persona, have been blocked by steam. I forget the game but I remember another VN getting banned because it used a classical painting of a bunch of vikings where one of them had his dick out. Even though, again, sex with hitler.

some of those games got through eventually but steam's process for letting stuff through is still incredibly arbitrary

I think I found the issue in this example. I know it's stupid, but I also don't blame a place like Steam for being cautious when you consider how litigious people are.

if you check popular upcoming rather than all upcoming then you will mostly get legit games. a skeevy game might sneak in here or there but it is a list mostly populated with actual products

checking it now, I saw two such sexual content games (pray game and last monarch) and then the rest was legit stuff

while i'm sure there's a lot of good games that go unnoticed because they don't show up in Popular Upcoming (not enough wishlists), the All Upcoming is where the signal to noise ratio is too hosed for me to get too deep into

also there's a touhou fangame coming out tomorrow that is basically SMT1 with turn based battles but also bullet hell for pokemon-style capturing

Chaos:Head is a notorious example, given that the game was released on the Switch at the time as well but someone at Steam decided it was too naughty and had to be banned.

quote:

An English localization of Chaos; Double Pack by Spike Chunsoft was eventually announced in March 2022, and was released on October 7, 2022.[20] In July 2022, Spike Chunsoft announced that the standalone version of Noah would be available on Windows via Steam on the same date.[21] However, edits found within Steam Database in August 2022 led to rumors about Chaos;Head being preemptively banned from the platform.[citation needed] The release was initially cancelled on September 30, citing Steam's guidelines requiring changes to the game's content;[22] but on October 6, Spike Chunsoft announced that Valve had reversed their decision, allowing Noah to be released on the platform as originally planned.[23]

I don't even have nudity filtered in my preferences and my new releases looks like this.

However, it does helpfully inform me that "5,956 titles have been excluded based on your preferences" at the top. The only thing that's apparently affecting that is that I'm excluding ignored titles and I've got some 50-some explicitly porny titles on ignore that I'd seen pop up in the list in the past however many years, so I guess whatever algorithm they have going sees that and extrapolates pretty heavily. I definitely have not manually excluded 5,956 titles, that's way too much effort.
