They were so hosed up that the guy started to try and put his hand down the ladies crack and caught himself. Yeah, I usually stand at the back of the venue for shows, especially at the 930 or Anthem. And maybe one out of every 5 times I'm there, I'll some girl wanting to clear floor space so that she can dance wildly, and will bump into us on purpose as she's dancing to move out of the way.

The new Nation of Language is out. I'm really digging it for. Spare me the decision has such a good groove. I'm so sad the show near me was sold out months ago.

The National announced a new album, Laugh Track, which comes out Sunday night. One of the first songs released, Space Invader, is possibly my favorite song from them since the High Violet days, especially when the coda kicks in.

My favorite song on first listen was I'm Your Man which is super moody and arresting but it's a slow burn and I think the real heart of the album is The Deal.

there’s more than a few indistinguishable mid tempo crooners and alphabet city is a much worse opener than once upon a poolside but the collabs are lovely. the bridgers one especially is miles ahead of either the ones on the last album

I really dislike it. It's just more rambling boring songs. They have completely lost their groove as a band. It's totally gone. (Smoke Detector is legit great though) BonoMan fucked around with this message at 02:34 on Sep 19, 2023 |

This must have been a few years ago now but I was blown away when they sold out a big venue in Auckland for like 3 nights in a row. I was like who the gently caress still cares about the National and the dude I was talking to started shifting his feet uncomfortably.

Other than it taking over an hour to get into the loving venue (there has to be a better parking system), the Death Cab/Postal Service show was super fun. They sounded great and the crowd was super into it. Jenny was wearing a gorgeous glitter dress and looked awesome. angrygodofjebus fucked around with this message at 16:15 on Sep 19, 2023 |

Death Cab crushed it. I thought the whole set was incredible and very rock and roll. Postal service was great for the first two tracks but I felt they were second class compared to the first set. Great night overall

Went and saw Pixies + Modest Mouse + Cat Power at the Hollywood Bowl over the weekend. Always loved Pixies, but I was blown away by how good Modest Mouse's live set was. I had also forgotten that loving Paz Lenchantin became the Pixies' permanent bassist around 2014 - she crushed it. Anyways, here's an upload I found of Hey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egx-0xpxWqI and Tiny Cities Made of Ashes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B93ZXt3pYZc

I've seen MM around 8 times, and it's always been a good show regardless of the venue size. In Raleigh, Isaac jumped into the crowd to headlock a dude harassing a woman and deliver him to security. The band just kept playing the riff for Tiny Cities Made of Ashes until he got back. Then in Atlanta on the We Were Dead tour, their encore was a 23 minute jam where they did wild mashups of their songs while folks from the crowd danced on stage.

Not indie but Starbucks themed: I got nostalgic and put on a Coldplay Tiny Desk. I was not prepared to learn that a set from years ago, where they play their hits, contained no songs from when I still listened to them as a teenager and twenteenager.

On the train to Leeds to see the National tonight. I do like Laugh Track, very strong. It’s very National-y. Took a peek at the dublin set list, I’m not precious about knowing what I will see, and it’s nearly three hours of divorced dad wine addicted energy. Legit can’t wait. Also soccer mommy are supporting which I am equally excited about. I love everything she does.

Lauren Mayberry's solo album is gonna be mostly goth bangers and it owned. She also played a two hour dj set and I got to meet her afterwards. What a night. Her singing to Work It by Missy Elliot was a highlight.

Underscores has a new album out called Wallsocket and it's pretty good! Definitely has that underscores sound (the particular sound of voice modulation underscores uses is so distinctive and lovely), but goes in a more indie direction than pop, continuing the trend between fishmonger and fearmonger. Highlights include: Uncanny Long Arms (ft Jane Remover)- it's already a good song. Then it starts to swell and you realize there's still a minute left and wham, the last bit. A wonderful expansion of Kinkos field trip 2006 from fishmonger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYpKQ65DugI Locals (Girls Like Us) (with gabby start)- these two work well together and that makes this song very fun. It feels like it goes in a very different direction for gabby starts part of the song, but not in a bad way! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9zDeHOAP_g Johnny Johnny Johnny- tw: grooming. This song is explicitly about grooming. It feels weird putting this song as a highlight. It's a highlight sonically, and while it's lyrics are powerful, it's not a pleasant song to listen to (which kind of feels like the point). On an album with two other former members of the FROMTHEHEART collective, this song feels especially poignant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymdpfe3mZCw Highly recommend listening to this album!
