This was in reference to "Budweiser Budvar", a completely different product from a different continent. One Adolphus Busch, familiar with the ancient and respected Czech beer named "Budweiser", stole the name for an inferior product that he then produced in Missouri. (As a result of this product-name confusion, Anheuser-Busch's product is sold -- to whom, I cannot rightly imagine -- in Europe under the abbreviated name "Bud".) Also, pilsners are great, when they are made with care with good ingredients. Beer Nerd ooouuuuut.

American beer used to be on par with the rest of the world, then they started using poo poo-tier cheap ingredients during product shortages in WWII. By the time the war was over and they theoretically could have started using the good stuff again, Americans had gotten used to the taste so why go to the extra expense when people will willingly drink your piss. That's free money babyee

When it comes to craft beer, the rest of the world has a long way to catch up. Especially coming from Washington where there's tons of local beer everywhere you go. But Washington is also home to one of the best hops producing regions in the world, the Yakima Valley. Having recently been to Germany, they have good beer for sure but I'd still pick a Washington beer instead if given a choice. But when it comes to brands like Budweiser, just don't see the reason to buy cheap mass market beer at all. Of course it tastes like poo poo.

Why have some wacky craft beer when you can have a good ol' fashioned lager? It's not supposed to taste like much of anything. It's supposed to go down smooth and easy so you can quickly and efficiently drink as many as possible.

Takes No Damage posted:Still the most successful IRL sabering video I've ever seen. I think US beer was always worse. One problem with North America is that 6 row barley grows much better than 2 row barley typically used for beer. When German brewers started making beer in the US, the 6 row barley gave it a darker color, and they adjusted the recipe to make it lighter. Even pre Prohibition grain bills I've seen for home brewers use majority 6 row malt.

I was camping in Montana last week with my partner and my dogs when we took a wrong turn and our hiking trail turned into a backcountry trail that eventually just turned into game trails. We turned back and got the dogs some water at a stream we found when behind us suddenly was the sound of a very large tree breaking in half. My partner was already halfway up a hill and hiding in a hole at the base of a dead tree by the time I saw a 6' tall bull moose staring at me from about 5 feet away. I grabbed the dogs, started talking to the moose, and backed up the hill. We sat there for about 2 hours waiting for him to move on his way then started back towards camp. We ran into this motherfucker 3 more times, I guess he was going up into the woods and then circling back down to our trail. The last time we ran into him he was extremely unhappy and started screaming at us and flicking his dewlap towards us. We were sure he was about to charge and were getting ready to unleash our dogs and loving curl into a ball and die when some loggers a few miles away started up their chainsaws and equipment and scared him away. When we got back to camp we told the USGS guys as well as a bow hunter who was camped next to us. They all were extremely jealous and commented that there were a lot more moose and bears and a lot fewer elk this year. I don't think they understood we were terrified, but I have some cred with some strangers in Montana I guess. Woodburger has a new favorite as of 16:31 on Sep 25, 2023 |

is schadenfreude really just 'enjoying bad things happening to people'? I thought it was more specific than that. maybe because I became familiar with the word from reading the bitcoin thread back in the day. whatever the word is for people who have bad things happen to them specifically due to their own arrogance, overconfidence, hubris, that's the flavor of schade that i love best

Personally, I'm more of a cunning linguist.

I like IPAs fine, but I also like other beers, and do get mildly irritated when I go to a bar and they have like 12 different beers on tap... 10 of which are different brands broadly similar IPAs, maybe one of them has a hint of grapefruit or something. I get bored easily and want to try different things!
