I think the people still pushing for it want a vote so they know who needs to get targeted in primaries. They don't harbor any illusions it will pass.

But the Dem leadership knows that's what they want, so they'll never even hold a vote now.

Maybe instaed they just didn't want to ask him about that poo poo. Even if it's gonna be a long road back good to see a hopeful update.

My dad had a stroke a little over a year ago. He was barely conscious for a while and had to have serious brain surgery. When he was awake he was hugely confused and called everyone by his sister's name. I remember at the time thinking that even if he lived that most of who he was would be gone forever. A year later and he's back at work with a few accommodations, driving again, and talks and acts exactly like he did before.

In America, you can't say something about someone politically unless you have proof. If you have proof, you still can't say it, and sometimes people say things without proof or with proof that's obviously false, but we're working on it.

This segues into something very frustrating I'm seeing where people pull clips from Chapo to say that they're transphobic or antisemetic or they hate Syria, and every time they actually have some evidence it's a tweet from 2015 of Matt making some joke like "I am peasant from outskirts of Aleppo, please america liberate me with F-35".
Which is obviously insane, but the frustrating thing is that my local abortion clinic escorts twitter believes this poo poo too so they went off about chapo bros being misogynists and not caring about the Dobbs decision. They included a clip from the show and it's Felix talking about how several groups were quick to talk about how abortion is a [minority, trans, low income] issue, which felt like trying to score quick points on social media after the decision dropped, and Matt chimes in to note that solidarity among groups is how we win!

It makes me feel insane to see the 'proof' that chapo is evil monsters who were created in a russian lab to stop Hilary in 2016, and it's just nothing, every time. I guess I'm insulated from it because I don't really see it anymore, but all the stuff with Matt is dredging up some really crazy stuff.

I just hope he makes a full recovery; a show is just a show. The news sounds hopeful. I started listening to his recent vlogs and enjoyed the intellectual breakdown of lumpen libertarianism.

The Twitter heckling isn't worth being bothered about. The ones who aren't NAFO are the same deeply weird crowd that periodically melts down about a show they've never listened to. The NAFO guys, as I learned from a Radio War Nerd interview recommended ITT, are built around a core of Anime Nazis who self-consciously pivoted to the center. Which explains why they're so gross. It just proved Matt's point about political tendencies as posting styles.

The latter. The clinic escorts had a twitter account to coordinate things and talk about abortion issues, which was nice because they were very involved in local politics too. The clinic has been shut down, but the escorts twitter account still exists and helps to coordinate abortion care for people how they can. Which is admirable, and makes it more confusing that they believe CTH said "who cares" when abortion was overturned.

It's fine, it's just part of a weird streak of accounts that are normally normal, but decided that this was a great opportunity to declare how bad Matt Christman was, using evidence that doesn't even make sense. It's like the old line about being able check the profile for a patreon except bleeding into normal left spaces, which is why I brought it up here. I guess I was dumb for thinking most people that didn't listen weren't harboring grudges based on games of telephone from 2016.

I encountered something similar when I was more active in my local DSA chapter. People who didn't listen to the show were bringing it up unprompted to call them ableist. This concern was entirely around a) them using the r-slur and b) an insanely nothingburger scandal you might remember, where Amber Frost was criticized for organizing a M4A canvassing event that a disability working group wasn't notified about because they changed their own e-mail address. None of this concern over ableism ever manifested in any way besides being mad about a podcast. Our chapter wasn't working on any disability related issues that I know of.

This is causing me to flash back to the 2020 campaign, when "dirtbag leftists" were wound up about "radlibs" doing "idpol." When there was a seemingly endless parade of queer/trans/disabled/neurodivergent/BIPOC defense contractors, think tank spokespeople, wealthy heirs, and nepotism hires came out of the woodwork to say that universal healthcare, unions, debt cancellation, and police abolition are actually racist. You know, the kind of thing that feels important in the moment but that you feel insane for even remembering a few years (or months) later.

Pentecoastal Elites

the willingness to not just ignore, but explicitly reject the sort of left-liberal politeness that's prominent in places and orgs that are ostensibly leftist but not specifically focused on class consciousness reads to a lot of people as right-wing, especially (in my experience) to people whose political understanding isn't fundamentally centered on class. The people who should agree, or at least be amenable to Chapo but hate them always seem to be of this type, where their hatred of the "dirtbag left" is based on cultural, not ideological, grounds

I joined and went to meetings for several months but eventually stopped because it was pointless. They'd discuss all these different working group meetings, vote and heatedly debate on election endorsements (lol), and that was about it.

There was no action, no coordination with local unions, no feeding the unhoused, not even a broken tail light fixit day or whatever. It was just debates and reports on smaller debates and voting on meaningless resolutions.

When I did door knocking for Bernie one guy gave me some advice that was just repeating what Amber had said so I asked him if he'd gotten that from Chapo and he slightly abashedly admitted yes.
