Cooked Auto posted:https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/09/26/the-sternguard-and-terminator-kits-make-for-the-fanciest-space-marines-in-the-imperium/ That terminator kit seems specifically designed to work with future upgrade sprues - such as Deathwing or Wolf Guard - rather than creating full new terminator kits each time. Will be interesting to see what happens when the DA update arrives.

Iv never played table top before, so I guess ill just stick to what I think is cool. Id really like to use my baneblade at some point. Back in the day weren't baneblades only allowed in apocalypse battles? and wasn't there some change that let you take them in normal fights now? As a follow up question; are mixed armies allowed? Like Space Marines w/ Imperial guard. Iv been thinking about what regiment I want to paint/theme my guardsmen around and I really like the ultramar auxilla, and in the books Iv read they fight alongside the ultramarines and their successor chapters fairly often. Would be cool to have a predator or small squad of marines alongside my guardsmen.

Lady Militant posted:Thanks! I might get another russ or that weird new dorn tank. Iv always liked the russ variants more than the standard. Yes you can take baneblades and variants in normal 40k games. Most competitive/tourney games are at 2000 points, and that's generally what the game is 'balanced' at. Mixed armies are not currently competitively allowed, but you can take some separate detachments with separate rules. For example, you can take a small 'Agents of the Imperium' detachment with your IG. Check out https://www.warhammer-community.com/warhammer-40000-downloads/ for Astra Militarum (imperial guard) index cards (what units are legal, how they work, etc). Download the munitorum field manual for points values (these change periodically as GW balances the game, but rarely anything major), and you can even download the 10th edition rulebook! Become familiar with how it works! Look around your area for gaming groups that might allow you to come and check out a gameday, or play a tutorial etc. Feel free to PM with any other questions, or ask in the thread!

Tuxedo Catfish posted:So a minor 40k lore question: do Inquisitors have some document, badge, or regalia that firmly establishes that they're an Inquistor (for times when they need that authority and aren't operating undercover, obviously), and what would it be? It is the Rosette which the Eisenhorn/Ravenor series implies has quite a lot of data stored in it to verify their identity. It can also be a physical object but also a digital one. It's also implied you can send a message to verify the rosette as genuine etc but it's a bit vague on how Inquisitors who are declared rogue are still able to use their rosettes. I think what's basically implied is that most people are too scared to say "OK well we sent an astropathic message all the way to the regional hub, I'm not going to follow your instructions for the minimum of 2 weeks to get a response" because you'll just be shot. In the Eisenhorn vs Ravenor series Eisenhorn uses his rosette no problem and when Eisenhorn battles the chaos fallen Inquisitor who everyone thinks is dead his codes work 300 years after people thought he died. Lady Militant posted:Thanks! I might get another russ or that weird new dorn tank. Iv always liked the russ variants more than the standard. The Rogal Dorn is a cool model and rules wise is fairly good. It's basically just 1.5 Leman Russes in one. You can use baneblades in standard matches, it's not super competitive but I'm going to try using my Hellhammer at least once. You can't field mixed armies anymore. It was not a thing, then it was a thing for a while but it was broken, so then they nerfed it, then just removed it entirely. The exception to this is, as mentioned, Agent of the Inquisition and Chaos/Imperial Knights. Kitchner fucked around with this message at 17:17 on Sep 26, 2023 |

If you really want to mix in ordinary humans with marines, there are two ways to do it. Both are pretty limited: 1. A primarily space marine army with some human Imperial Agents mixed in. It allows you to get some light infantry to tag along with your marines, but no IG heavy weapons or vehicles. There are several different squad options, so it could be a fun conversion project to turn guardsmen into various specialist squads. 2. A primarily IG army with a couple of squads of Legions of the Damned space marines to hang around. The Damned Legionaries have Imperial Agents Legends rules, so some tournaments may ban them. They're somewhat inflexible Tactical marines with an invuln save, so hardly anything broken.

So, looking around me for places to play as I start priming and stuff like that outside of just heading to my local store and looking for games/posting on their discord, I found a place near me in Albany that does a monthly league. $5 per game, can play at 1k points, up to 4 times a month. Seems pretty reasonable! They list needing to bring a 10th edition rulebook, which I guess I understand but I'd sort of think I can use an app and it looks like it's not required, and to bring my own Chapter Approved: Leviathan Mission Deck. As far as I can tell though, the latter is only sold as part of the giant leviathan starter set? I can pick one up for about $30 on Ebay, but I'm kind of wondering if I could just print them out instead or something because it seems like a little bit of a waste. It looks like they might have been sold on the GW website for a bit more of a mark up, but they're out of stock currently. I assume that's generally common for events, since the games require the decks for missions? Do they change often? Trying to think if I should just buy an official one or print my own or something.. but I'm presuming at official events/tournaments you're required to have an official deck. Edit: Obviously I'll ask the event runners for more details and stuff, but was curious how you guys handle the need for the mission cards I guess, and whether they need to be the official deck or not Weird Pumpkin fucked around with this message at 19:10 on Sep 26, 2023 |

The problem would be if two people got paired up that both didn't have the Leviathan mission deck so that's why they want everyone to bring it. Also if by Albany you mean Albany Oregon I live up the way outside of Portland feel free to not doxx yourself but my DMs are open, although that would be a bit of a drive for either of us.

Compared to the last time I was in this hobby (around 2010), Games Workshop has really upgraded its community presence and communication. It's impressive that warhammer-community.com has a new post almost every day. I can't think of many companies that do that. I do wonder how they balance what to put in White Dwarf and what to put online.

Cooked Auto posted:https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/09/27/jump-pack-intercessors-kit-focus-blasting-a-classic-design-to-new-heights/ Kind of interesting they managed to cram them into two sprues compared to the 3 for the Terminators and Sternguard. You'd have thought jump pack dudes would have been more of an important kit. In theory you're going to want way more jump assault dudes than sternguard. It does make me laugh how much the design notes talked about how important it was to make them look like they weren't floating and weightless when they look exactly like that. I guess we'll get the command squad tomorrow.

I finished assembling my Impulsor tonight, mostly. What the gently caress am I supposed to do with this stupid hover base thing? I understand that one half is for the base (which I have glued to said base) and the other half attaches to the underside of the vehicle but are you supposed to just attach them to their respective halves and then rotate it so that the thing isn't at some insane angle? It was a fun kit to assemble except for that one part, which is just baffling.
