You can sort of tell the non-city folk in the US by watching them try to parallel park. I say sort of because everyone here is so trash at driving that you can't be sure they haven't been parallel parking their entire life and still loving it up.

If you just sit still and turn the steering wheel back and forth you're grinding one spot on your tires into the pavement. If you do it a lot it can wear the tires unevenly and shorten their lifespan.

I never had to take a behind the wheel driving test, or any kind of formal driver’s ed. We went to the DMV on my 16th birthday and my dad signed all the paperwork saying he taught me and that we did all the necessary hours of practice, and then he signed something saying he waived the actual driving test, and then I passed the written exam, and then I had a license.

Joke's on her, Naples was a delight.

I picked up a car at Naples airport and the people in front were asking about where to park in the city and the (Italian) guy behind the counter said "no it's not safe" "but it's fine at the hotel right?" "Ehhhh no" "what?" "The car park the street, the hotel, no".

This message brought to you by the tourist board of Naples.

Anyway the joke was on me because I wasn't going to Naples and had to drive down pitch black roads to get where I was going and at one point follow a diversion that was unsignposted and was basically "follow the other cars they probably know where they're going". I should have gone to Naples.

They had the same rental car stolen multiple times? I suppose it's not impossible but I've been to Naples and even outside the touristy areas it's not like dangerous dangerous. A bit sketchy and upleasant, sure. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.848...i8192?entry=ttu

Not leaving valuables visible in a car is a good practice anywhere though.

Yeah, but when you get to a parking spot, the chances of you being at the same spot in the tires as last time is miniscule.

In Napoli the entire garbage collection and disposal system, including the disposal of hazardous industrial waste, is run by organized crime clans.

Usually they just dump all of it somewhere in the countryside because properly disposing of stuff would cut into the profit margins and some rural people getting cancer isn't their problem.
