Considering that Turkey already has F-16's as far as I can tell, it does indeed seem to strike a pretty good compromise between making a strategic ally happy and not allowing said strategic ally to send the latest and greatest off to Russia for reverse-engineering.

When Turkey was booted from the F-35 program, it was not recouped $1.4 billion already paid to JSF development. Congress has floated blocking all new F-16 purchases and older F-16 upgrades for Turkey until after Sweden is in.

Turkey appears to be saying they want a resolution of this on paper before they vote Sweden in.

As an added wrinkle Senator Menendez (D-NJ) has said he would hold up F-16 sales to Turkey until issues of Turkish aggression against its neighbors is addressed, in reference to Greece and Cyprus disputes. Senator Menendez is also recently in the news for having $400k in gold bars, stashes of cash in his closet, etc.

Menendez got the gold from Egypt right? Not sure who within Egypt but they got home with gold after a trip there. I wonder what connections that had if any to this.

Yeah, training ammunition generally makes the gun recoil so the team can get experience with the system as it would work in real life. Unless they make training duds to simulate a misfire or something...

Upon Menendez's arrest, I was not expecting to learn that my Greek mother-in-law who can barely use a computer not only knows what an F-16 is but has strong opinions on who should and should not have them. 2020s continue to surprise.

Content: Short video of Russian inspecting newly-arrived tank shells... that appear to be lacking the things you would want to find inside tank shells, like the parts that make the target regret their day.

quote:

Russian army received fresh tank ammunition, but there is one BUT - they weren't filled with explosive.

"We fired, but they didn't explode. We started looking for reason and found that they are empty. We received doosens of such munition."

Content warning: This video is perfectly inoffensive but some other videos posted by that account are pretty graphic recordings of horrible things happening to Russian soldiers, some or all of which you may not want to see.

The amazing part is how the filling is absolutely the cheapest part of that shell. Even the fuze costs more.

I do not understand how this happened, do they actually have a shortage of explosives? I would expect China to sell them as much as they need.

I'm not going to read too much into it unless it starts happening on a larger scale. They probably drafted the guy who usually fills the shells with TNT or something, and the intern they replaced him with was too busy looking at tiktok to push the button at the right time and hosed up one batch of shells.
