After about the first 24 hours the cellphone towers lost backup power, the streets and sidewalks were unsafe to walk on because they were just solid sheets of wet ice, driving was obviously completely out of the question, you have no idea how terrifying it is to be stuck in a natural disaster, completely cut off from communication for days.

Some of the critical infrastructure radio towers in my state (specifically the network the State Police use) have natural gas backup generators fed via pipeline and supposedly can run for weeks without the electrical grid

Statistically speaking the typical president gets to replace 2 SCOTUS judges. Biden did replace Souter, wasn't it? but that was a deliberate retirement of an old man (and this may change the calculus). Five years... five years for fast living or rage to catch up with people, or for God to call John Roberts home.

Get one, the median vote snaps back to Roberts (or whoever if he's the one who croaked). Get two, and suddenly the shoe's on the other foot.

Climate change is going to force everyone's hand. Florida is basically a single hurricane away from an actual Diaspora of chuds, broke and hungry and uneducated and expecting a handout from the government because their uninsured home got flattened by a mega-hurricane and Governor Gaetz filled all the drainage ditches with oily rags.

Chuds laughed at Hurricane Katrina, but when it happens to them, they will be mad.

:hmmyes: (IMO) replacing two judges is kicking the can down the road. Biden & Co. need to add 3 more judges, so there's a SCOTUS justice for every circuit.

They probably also need to encode term limits for a lot of positions, but I'm not holding my breath on that

 I dunno. A bunch of leaky-anused dingleberries just went to prison for a very long time for planning an insurrection where they chickened out and left their guns at home, buuuuuuut this could end up being a natural selection thing where the next leaky-anused dingleberries are actually cool with shooting battles with cops... or shooting up a school as a political statement.. or wearing a C4 vest into a polling station. These idiots seem to keep radicalizing themselves, so honestly who loving knows where this goes

Yeah this is fear mongering.

This isn't me downplaying it at all, because obviously January 6th shows there is a decent amount of people who are ready to get rid of democracy because they won't get their way.

Obviously it goes without saying that conflict and death is horrific and I would prefer to avoid it. But a dedicated insurgent movement of ultra right wing extremists in America will be a gift to the significantly larger population in the democratic party and create impetus to remove the things that radicalize people, like Fox News.

AFAICT the dem response to McCarthy being threatened is "lol lmao, I/we don't have time for this" but also ousting McCarthy would take a full house vote so dem support would be needed. I think it needs actual majority support so some chunk of democrats would need to actively vote for it to happen

The funniest outcome, I believe, is that he gets ousted on the 15th vote after 14 unsuccessful ones.
