With that poker one, giving the benefit of the doubt, he might be a bit confused about the one point where you're not really allowed to lie about your hand. Let's say our guy had called the liar and it went to showdown, and it was the liar's turn to show his cards first, and at this point he hadn't said anything about his hand. Then, instead of showing, he says he has a full house. Our guy knows he is beaten, and mucks his cards without seeing the liar's. If at that point the liar admitted he was lying, the pot should go to our guy. But this was different because the lie came first and he didn't call, so it wasn't a showdown - he just got bluffed and folded.

^^^: actual answer depends on exactly what was happening during the hand. I was starting to write it out, but it was getting to multiple paragraphs of minutiae and not really entertaining enough for the threadOlewithmilk posted:Sorry for Reddit link, but it also reminds me of this other classic poker moment featuring Phil Hellmuth: It's always funny to see Phil blow up, but this is one time I'm on his side - he's playing with people that he knows well and often does all kinds of prop/side bets with. Doing a coinflip by seeing what happens without knowing your cards is a commonish degen bet for fun, so it's more like lying about which game you're playing rather than lying as part of poker It's a good example of why safewords shouldn't only be limited to fetish play (And for clarity I'm only talking about getting why he's upset, yeah I agree his tantrums are way over the top but I figure those are just tv personality ala Gordon Ramsay always being shown as yelling) Sentient Data has a new favorite as of 16:32 on Sep 29, 2023 |

Years ago I used to play with guys at work and there was one guy who took it super seriously even though it was just £5 buy in. At one game i was getting tired so just stayed in a round which normally id have folded in. After heavy raises after the flop he raised a lot the turn and with nothing in hand I went all in, ready to get up and drive home to bed and let the game continue without me. The river won me the game and the guy went absolutely apeshit. Tried to flip the table (which was a heavy wooden snooker table) threw his glass of coke into the wall smashing everywhere. He was ready to literally fight me for staying in the game when I had "no right to be in that game". We didn't invite him anymore after that.

I'll always take any opportunity to post Jon Bois' video about how poker both sucks and rules, even if it got taken down from his own channel from some reason. Features Phil Helmuth getting beaten by someone who actually didn't look at his cards. https://youtu.be/bDt90EyZnWA

Yesterday they grabbed a 16-year-old for it, which would have made it likely that it was for social media clout. Today they grabbed a 60-year-old for it, which now makes it likely that someone just misheard the arrest order
