I don’t know if I’m more disappointed by an Astros autopsy report while they’re in a playoff spot or how quickly any appreciation for Dusty Baker died after last season’s “how can you not root for Dusty?”

Glad he got a ring. After this year I do not need him mismanaging my team anymore. Both things can be true at once without contradiction.

The Red Sox looked interesting and I watched some games then they looked lovely and I stopped watching games. Casas seems cool, idk. Maybe Bellos too.

The AL Central sucks for sure, but the team that wins it is usually at least competent, if not outright good.

Gonna attribute the Cubs' sweep as what finally killed the Giants. The Brewers are 100% going to knock the Cubs out. Either in the last 3 games or in the postseason.

The Tigers are going to finish with a better record against the rest of the AL Central than the Twins, and would be probably be still be in the division race if not for a truly horrendous record against the AL East. And having typed that I see it actually reinforces your point

Hey, the Twins can still get a wild card bye as long as Texas and Seattle lose today, Houston loses at least one game to Arizona, and Seattle takes 3 of 4 from Texas in the final series! And if 2009 taught me anything, it's that very specific horseshit scenarios do happen.

Cubs Above .500 was what I was hoping for and that's what I got. Their run differential was much better than I expected, so there's a lot of hope for next season provided they do two things:
It'll be nice for the young guys to get an entire season under their belts next year. I hope PCA, Canario, and Mervis all make the opening day roster. Jordan Wicks seems very promising. Heyward will finally be off the books, but the Cubs will still owe Tucker Barnhart and Trey Mancini over $10 million next year.
|
# ? Oct 1, 2023 02:47 |
Cubs I think this year if anything showed why you don't want to rely on just a bunch of young guys getting called up without much a of a backup plan. Mervis obviously struggled but even their September call ups like PCA did not look ready at the plate. Good to get them some experience and hopefully next year they can make the call up permanently but as we saw with Morel late last year there is an adjustment period guys have to go thru. Happy to see Morel make strides in striking out less, I hope he can be an every day guy next year cause he's really fun to watch and clearly has a lot of talent. Also sign Bellinger and Ohtani and maybe get an actual legit closer.

Canario looked good when given a chance. PCA needs another year in AAA. I guess the Cubs were better than expected but they'll likely lose their best player so I'm not sure if there is going to be a ton of improvement they can make in the offseason.

The Cubs were frustrating overall, but there were stretches where they played some absurdly entertaining baseball, and that's how I'll choose to remember them this year. Because grief is only grief until you accept it.

You cannot make the argument that this offense will be fine without Belli. He led the team in HR, BA, RBI, SLG, and OPS. He was 2nd on the team in hits, runs, and SB. He is 100% necessary to keep this offense going.
