Having four levels in each skill was just a really bad idea. It just causes you to spend all your levels on specializing instead of trying new things. Also putting so many mechanics behind skills means the game does an absolutely terrible idea tutorialising. Like I don't think the game ever explained how to use the ship thrusters.

The Crimson Fleet questline is the best because jumping to the Vigilance and the Key both put you right up near them so you can dock immediately, unlike most destinations which seem to spawn you 2-3k away so you have to sit there jetting over to them

This would be true if there was any point in specialising, but unfortunately most of the skills are minor buffs to stats I don't feel remotely lacking in, or unlocks that don't seem to solve any of the problems I have. I'm level 45 and sitting on six skillpoints because there's just nothing I want, or at least nothing I want enough to grind out the dumb skill challenge.

I'm being really down on this game but I did just attend a funeral in a monster costume, and then go and do some pirate murder with my machine pistol that sets people on fire! I did like that.

Horses existed in Skyrim, how impossible could it be. Make them spawn in and give the player a 10kg hard case and have the bike unfold itself. Great, now you don't have to worry as much about them getting lost, getting destroyed, etc each instance is deployable and you'll make another if you need to.

I’m level 40 and have class C piloting and I have never used thrusters. I saw them mentioned in this thread and thought “oh cool” but I forgot to look up the key binds.

Finally getting a satisfying Nova brand loyalty look for the Frontier. A zigzag compact interior that does not erase major habitat props with the doors (Companionway, Living, Lab, Workshop) without feeling 100% generic on the outside thanks to the sorta kinda asymmetrical build.

Level scaling on engines for sale mean three at 9 power are better than my old wide build with four engines at 12 I could never fully power anyways. A difference in thousands of thrust means it just wasn't worth sticking with the cool side engines for now.

Speaking of power. I settled on a Frontier A class build just in time to unlock the Star Eagle :downs: 29 power is too good to pass up when I am stuck with 23 tops for an A class right now.

Probably gonna make my next DiY ship project saving for a B class (because stealing them keeps being glitchy. I want to rename ships, damnit!) after rearranging and rearming the Star Eagle. Taiyo/Hope interiors bother me with the bare cots for space wage slaves vibe, but their exteriors are so nice. So that could be a good way to keep it fresh, between Nova Frontier and an "Everybody loves Stroud/Deimos" Eagle.

To those with quest scripting issues…

Most people are familiar with merchants resetting, but there’s also several other resets at much longer intervals in creation engine games. 48 hours for normal vendors, 600 hours for a bunch of other stuff. In previous games this always felt like a joke answer, but now you can just go to Venus and give it a shot.

Just started playing this game and whoever set the container/kg values needs to be kicked in the nuts. Specializing in outpost management to build large containers only for them to have the capacity to hold 1 fuel rod and 3 ham sandwiches is ludicrous. It would be less terrible if attempting to stack containers on your outpost wasn't a 20 minute exercise in snapping frustration. Did they even play this game before shipping it out the door?

For anyone that didn’t know: the “rotate” button cycles through snapping options once an outpost piece has “snapped” to another.

In the end this is why I just gave myself all the crafting perks before going to NG+ because I realized that each of them was like 20 hours of gameplay in goals and resource gathering for each of them. I don't like to add every perk because it kind of breaks games for me but at least for those I realized it was just too ridiculous.

Yeah… No tutorials at all. You would think they could put little janky videos in a help screen or even, possibly, offer it during the flyboy simulator but that is just crazy talk.
Basically on Xbox SX there’s the right bumper. Go fast then hold down that right bumper and move the left joystick a direction. Little orange direction arrows pop up on the HUD centre displaying which ones are firing. You have to hold it down and fire them more in order to have a noticeable effect. Very much like I remember Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw or Elite Dangerous. If you haven’t played those build up speed (like hit boost) and then hit thrusters to the side so you use your forward momentum and strafe akin to The Expanse. Baddies don’t do it so now you are super pilot.
With boosters on XB remember that you can easily kill the boost early by manually turning down your speed. You hear target lock then boost then kill it. You are Ace Rimmer since pirates fly like they are in atmo and have no tactics other than charge head first and then do another circle and charge again. Numbers are the only advantage they ever have.

For Xbox: new save then deleting old seems best. Had a bad save when overwriting. Don’t keep too many saves. Haven’t heard of that being a bug on Xbox yet but I still remember when that was a Bethesda thing on the PS.

Yeah I don’t buy that it can’t be done. I’ve said it before but I’d make vehicles a dlc and people will pay money for it. Have three different types: fast with low extra cargo boost, medium speed with more cargo and slow with max cargo. Use it to help you move around and store all those gubbins till you get closer to your ship. Hell make the slow have an easy enclosed driving compartment so you don’t have to rely on just your suit. Maybe you eventually add a mounted gun so you can conserve ammo and on and on but start with the basics.

Lastly the skill three needs serious rework. Leadership being t3 and the first unlock makes approval faster. I got this at 45 and have max approval already with the Constellation guys. I’d have gotten it before but wanted to be able to sneak, lockpick, have manoeuvre thrusters and so on. Can’t wait till Xbox gets mods. Cheat room for skill points and to fix npc vendor cash. So many skills I’d love to try.

Be careful for what you wish for.

My guess for on planet transport is that it will be easier/faster to hit the invisible walls and probably able to do weird stuff.

My suggestion is to tether the vehicle to the ship and as you get further from the ship the vehicles get slower and slower on a inverted logarithmic slope where you have to be quite far for it to get slower.

Also todd is right, one way to go around that is to level up your booster and acrobatie skill.

Whats the rate of diminishing returns with starship weapons stacking? Is 4 missile launchers better than 2?

I plan on focusing on 2 weapon types for battle, and my third being an EM weapon used occasionally for boarding enemy ships.

IMO more=better. Power usage just determines reload times, so if you have more weapons you will fire more at once and reload may not even matter.

The downside being weight, if it's enough to drop your mobility significantly.

There's a safe in your room on the second floor too. Your room is the only one with an unoccupied bed, it's a room directly opposite another hallway, pretty much the furthest back. It has a black bedspread.

No idea if it links to the same storage chest.

speaking of this chest, there was a 2nd unlimited chest in that same basement (under the tool rack on the back wall of the screenshot) in my first playthrough that i also used

when i started NG+ and went to the lodge, that 2nd chest wasn't there any more

what the heck is up with that?

That one shows up after the attack on the Lodge, I believe. Guess it got linked to the same enable parent but why they did that in the first place, no idea.

Oooooo…. Tell tell. Console or pc?

One thing I’ve noticed about ship parts that RL friend didn’t know who has also been playing since early release: not just habs and structures are different at the shipyards docks. I’ve found these beautiful ship design 3 class b engines that beat pretty much anything else from a thrust/weight/size ratio. Four of those easily beats 2 class Cs. Only place I’ve found them is Neon and the Ryu building. My lone outpost ship builder did not have them. Ryu building seems to have the best grav drive too. Weapons have been fairly universal with some small exceptions. Best ballistic, in my opinion, are the ones that only have a range of 800 but a 7.5 RoF. Once you get in range EVERYTHING melts. Low power so you can easily put four of them on your ship. Closest thing to the Gatling defence turrets from the Expanse without being turrets. The turret version has a range of 1000 if I remember. Proppa Dakka.

My new Chonk ship uses turrets and it’s easy but still not as satisfying as manually blowing up mercs/pirates. Plus less friendly fire. I spent almost a mill making my ship and already have almost 200k. Thinking about my next ship project. Wish missile boats were better as I’d love to release large salvos of missiles.
