Ask me about the shitty opinions I have about Paradox games!
Really enjoyed Fionna and Cake, I didn't know where they'd take it but it was pretty nice all in all.
I'm not sure how satisfied I am with the ending although I get what they were saying with it.
Now it's its own thing instead of a gender swap copy of Adventure Time. Cool I guess. But it's like the modern day and that's absolutely and utterly poo poo, why wouldn't you want it as a cool fantasy world where everyone's mostly happy and nothing bad happens?
Just storytelling wise I went away a bit sad about how it ended because of that

Glorious.

It was at that point I decided I wouldn’t bother watching any future seasons - the writers were probably high-fiving when they came up with this scene but it left me completely cold. Someone should have told Netflix that there was more to the original series than the animation.

He somehow manages to land on the worst possible anime scenes every time. When Inuyashiki landed on prime, I anticipated to him that the author loved to punch below the belt, and when a certain bathroom scene happened, he didn't sleep for a few days.

Is it just me or are there far more fights in this season than in (individual) previous seasons?

(I've not bothered to count, obviously. Just s vibe.)

It did feel that way.

The characters felt a bit over powered this season. I remember the previous seasons were mostly 1v1 and seemed like the portagonists struggled a bit to win. Here they'll take on 3 or 4 vampires at a time and just cut them down without too much effort.

Then again its hard to not feel anime when it seems they are trying to attack and dethrone God.

It definitely feels that way. More fights and more opponents in each fight too. Any 1v1 fight is basically exposition time, the big fights are all animation showcases. Which is fine by me, not complaining at all.

Most of the criticisms raised ITT are fair I think, there's definitely a shift in the writing sensibilities and it doesn't feel as layered or complex as the first series yet. I have faith they'll get there but I can see how this wouldn't be everyone's vibe in the current form.

For anyone who doesn't know, Made In Abyss had its own thread in ADTRW for years until the mods caught wise to what the show actually contained and nuked it from orbit and perma'd a few people. Anime gonna anime...

It is an anime with a very cutesy style but full of horrible violence, both physical and emotional in regards to characters that look like children.

A funny thing is that while discussion of it is banned in ADTRW the series aired on American cable TV.

The reason why it got banned from Something Awful is that the author is, like, maximum otaku brained and is open about how much he wants to gently caress the characters who look like five year olds. It's like the Piss Forest comic strip but the Piss Forest is weirdly sexualized child torture, also there are people who are really adamant about how good worldbuilding the Piss Forest is.

I only meant so far as the cutesy exterior hiding a lot of messed up things, it was a shallow comparison. Didn't know the author was that kinda person, though.

I really enjoyed the new series of Castlevania. It has flaws that others have already mentioned, but they don't detract from it that much. I think it is worth remembering how the first series took a while to find its footing, and the moment when Sypha, Trevor, and Alucard meet and decide to be allies in that season one is just as contrived as the worst moments in Noctourne.

There was a lot to enjoy, my favourite stuff being:

-Slavers being vampiric pieces of poo poo and getting killed
-Aristocrats being vampiric pieces of poo poo and getting killed
-The queer relationships
-The opera singing
-The summoner spells
-The pink-haired demon miniboss
-The Aztec
-The big bad and how things go down when the party finally encounters her

As with the previous series, the voice acting is top notch, and the art and animation is beautiful amidst all the violence. The magic is fantastic and when a God steps onto the scene it is appropriately terrifying for everyone around. I wish we could get a Malazan series with this level of quality!

I will never not find it absolutely exhausting how hard pedophiles try and "jokingly" insert this poo poo into works that ostensibly aren't supposed to be porn. Kiss Players did the same exact poo poo. Once you see the wide far apart eyes and skin gloss loving run, it's like their calling card or something.

yeah i have to assume made in abyss' mainstream popularity spike was because it has a strong hook (protagonist goes to seek answers and glory in a cave system that's somewhere between jules verne and an open mouth to hell) but the author has an extremely obvious torture/degradation fetish and becomes even more obvious as they go

Hell one of the major plot points and I don't give a drat if it's a spoiler is that the protagonist literally will not survive past childhood hence why she HAS to do all this now. None of that icky maturing business for her I guess.

On euro streaming was a top billing suggestion on Amazon Prime Video (which doesn't have to this day a "anime for adults" category) and then Netflix.

SlothfulCobra

I don't think there's anything overtly sexual in the show or manga itself. What gets to me is just the horrible, horrible suffering of cute little children. I think one of the earlier things I remember is the girl asking for you to mercy-kill her friend for mutating into an abomination. I guess there is a thing where after you've gone a certain distance, you do wanna just know what's at the bottom of the hole. All the extreme bleakness I guess creates a unique feeling, which I don't think is a good one.

I feel like I wanna counteract the energy of Made in the Abyss by making some other recommendations.

Even If the World Is Over It's Fun to Live
This series has a vaguely similar superficial vibes, but instead of venturing down a hole of despair, it's about a girl and her friends adventuring through the postapocalyptic wasteland full of weird creatures. The main character carries an x-acto knife as a spear.

Hakumei & Mikochi

Not really similar vibes at all, just cute little people out in the country having a chill time. It's a kinda soporific. It's one of those series that I feel is "mature" not because there's any violence or sex (there is none), but because there's things I think only adults would be interested in, like there's an episode about helping a friend pick out new furniture for her apartment.
