What I mean is that in the fictional world of 1984, most people are way more free and less surveilled than in actual 2023. The vast, vast majority of people in Airstrip One are proles who get to live however they want to. They're not watched or oppressed or anything. 1984 is a guy bitching about how he's a HENRY

While Asimov was one of my fave authors as a kid, he has some balls ripping Orwell's lack of originality when he openly himself lifted Gibbs ' Rise and Fall of The Roman Empire for Foundation.
