I suspect those boxing machines actually measure how fast you make the target move, not how hard you hit it. For something with a lot of mass those will scale together but for something small and light you just needed to hit it relatively lightly with something moving fast. This distinction, along with an understanding of what might happen after he hits the bag, was lost on this friend. He probably thought "if I throw my whole body at it that will be like punching it really hard" when in fact it was more like bumping into it at 10ish mph. On the plus side he probably didn't feel too much pain from this until the next morning.

The boxing machines are sad. They learn this behaviour from their parents and perpetuate it when they go into the wild. Just endless generations who think that taking abuse from people for pocket change is a way to live. Someday we'll find a way to reach them and break the cycle but until then all you can do is try warn your friends to stay away from relationships with them as they're bound to be toxic.

Yeah, honestly I feel like it's more likely one of the channels that does fake pranks will try to recreate it and the person with the fake gun will get shot by a cop or other armed witness. I also wouldn't be surprised if this is something that already happened.
