I've actually been watching through the videos they did with this guy, there's a LOT of them, and they're great! he's got a great sense of humor for them while also being informative, about inspirations for weapon designs, historical representations of what a weapon from a game might be from(I'm literally watching the Weapons from Warhammer 40k Boltgun reaction right now and he references a weapon from the late 1800s in regards to similar style to the Heavy Bolter's ammunition) and also inaccuracies with existing weapons depicted in games. Like how one of the guns from TF2 which is clearly a real gun just straight up doesn't have a barrel, there's just a flat surface when they go to reload, nowhere for the bullets to go. Which is probably just an artifact of it being a spot of the gun you only see for a few frames ever, but still, it's funny
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNSgulYUor8&hd=1

all of his TF2 reactions are great because they drive him up the wall as a firearms historian, like the Panic Attack which has the ammo drum under the end of the barrel. also having jarate explained to him is great
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJP7M4M8vNY&hd=1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9YgonyJmc4&hd=1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N4WM_fykqU&hd=1

he's also an actual gamer instead of some ancient dude unfamiliar with games at all, so you get to both see his current reaction and also his perspective from when he was playing DOOM 2 as a kid. it's also neat to see him at least attempt to suss out how completely fictional guns like energy weapons might work based on how they operate ingame, like I never actually noticed how the Combine Rifle from half life 2 worked until he explained it, and yeah, it sure is weird

The throughline between the Flat Earth/QAnon video, the NFT video, and this one certainly seems to be that despite positioning themselves as outsider revolutionaries raging against the machine, the advocates for these movements don’t actually have any problems with the machine; they just wish they were the ones running it instead of the people who currently are.

Yeah, the internet and social media has allowed us to get a very good look at conspiratorial mindsets and they're not good mindsets. It's born out of arrogance and a desire for power more than anything else.

He uses it as an example of these people's understanding of these systems but The Big Short does do a good job of breaking down what the gently caress is actually happening in that film. But yeah, these things are designed to make the average person feel dumb and disheartened.

Its an old thing going back to the "temporarily embarassed millionaire" mindset people have been saying about the American public in general for ages. The more interesting part of these to me is the thing he ties back to QAnon of the people involved seeing coded messages in everything. Only with the Memestock stuff it was mainstream enough for big name people to actively bait them after it was clear the whole thing was over.

Oh yeah! If you really want to see that addage in practice then look no further than the 2022 Massachusetts electoral map for taxation of millionaires (question 1). Basically it's a next-to-nothing increase (4%) on households making more than a million a year for a grand total of 9%. We use the worthless and poor-hating flat tax in this state.

Here's the map

It barely passed by like 4% of the votes. (Take a look at Martha's Vineyard and be surprised, it's the island south of the state, on the west side. Not the Jaws island that's to the east.)

Don't worry too much about the minutiae, just focus on the core dynamic of short sellers, who make bets that a company is going to lose value, vs stockholders, who want the value to go up.

Or more specifically the ridiculous knots that the Apes twist that dynamic into.

I always saw it more as a Internet version of a new age cult complete with figureheads and in-group memes. If you sold you lost your in-group credentials "diamond hands", and the charismatic(??????) leader was that dork who fought publicly with "big wall street".

the way the group reacted to their promised fortunes failing to materialize matches pretty closely with the observed characteristics of group detailed in "When Prophecy Fails" as well.

wow, I'm very, definitely, absolutely surprised that Weston, the town with Literal Castles As Houses in it, whose average household income is $330,000, voted NO to increase taxes on millionaires. well, I'm actually kind of surprised that 38% of them voted yes, so that's something.

I guess 4% is a good start, and I'm glad it passed.

Conservatives fundamentally view life as a zero-sum game. Every single human interaction is one that has winners and losers; if you are not dominating and exploiting other entities, then they are dominating and exploiting you. Like not to say that it's not part of the reason, but there's more going on when they assume that an end to patriarchy means matriarchy and that feminism is misandry rather than just bad faith arguing.

The problem is always not that the world is ruled by a shadowy cabal of tyrants puppeteering governments from behind the shadows; it's that these cabals are the Wrong People. Like Theosophists don't have issues with Secret Masters at all!
