We also need lots of car companies so we have the freedom to choose between a variety of offerings

And there is some evidence that a planet X does exist in the far outskirts of our solar system so

You know what Pluto is of course. A little further out is what's called the Oort cloud, a region of small objects in a ring around our solar system. Even though said objects are much closer to us than say the nearest star and it's planets, any objects in the cloud are very hard to see because they don't give of any light and aren't reflecting much light unlike closer objects like Mars, Venus, Saturn, ect

Nevertheless, we have discovered several objects there. One reason that Pluto was demoted from being a planet is because if Pluto is a planet, then there are possibly several dozen small objects in the Oort cloud that would also be planets, which is just silly. There may also be a very large planet, something the size of Jupiter in the cloud region. Said planet, sometimes called X or Nemesis, could have a very long ecliptic orbit like a comet, where it periodically comes very close to the sun before zooming back out to the outer reaches of the solar system. There are different theories. If it's a Jupiter or brown dwarf star, it's massive gravity fucks up the earth and causes our periodic mass extinctions. If it's a smaller earth like planet, it's where the aliens live.

This is separate from the counter earth theory, which is that a second earth like planet exists in our orbit directly across from us, so that the sun is always between the two planets.

What does this have to do with biosphere collapse you ask? As things get worse, two separate escapist fantasies will become more common. One is that aliens or other forces exist and will help us, that there are other habitable planets we can escape to, and second that the earth is periodically destroyed by outside forces, so really what we did to the planet isn't so bad, we were doomed anyway.

There is a mix of things relating to "another planet"

(NASA article explaining that simulations on movement in the kuiper belt would suggest a neptune sized planet on a 20,000 year orbit around the sun)
https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/planet-x/

quote:

Caltech researchers have found mathematical evidence suggesting there may be a "Planet X" deep in the solar system. This hypothetical Neptune-sized planet orbits our Sun in a highly elongated orbit far beyond Pluto. The object, which the researchers have nicknamed "Planet Nine," could have a mass about 10 times that of Earth and orbit about 20 times farther from the Sun on average than Neptune. It may take between 10,000 and 20,000 Earth years to make one full orbit around the Sun.

Space.com article explaining the mass extinction planet
https://www.space.com/15551-nibiru.html

quote:

The story began in 1976, when Zecharia Sitchin wrote "The Twelfth Planet," a book which used Stitchin's own unique translation of Sumerian cuneiform to identify a planet, Nibiru, orbiting the sun every 3,600 years. Several years later, Nancy Lieder, a self-described psychic, announced that the aliens she claimed to channel had warned her this planet would collide with Earth in 2003. After a collision-free year, the date was moved back to 2012, where it was linked to the close of the Mayan long-count period

So once it was theorized in 2015 some people suggest the distant orbit planet is actually Nibiru, that Nibiru passing earth corresponds with repeated disasters that can be seen in the geological record or that Nibiru is also the burning angel or star "wormwood" from christian revelations.

Both of these are separate from the second earth on the opposite side of the sun theory you mentioned but I think some conspiracy theorists use the possibility of that planet existing to explain where Nibiru is hiding.

Usually after that is where the aliens come in. If there is another whole planet it must be populated so therefore all the aliens come from it. You'd have to believe Nibiru swings by every 3000 years and the aliens only possess the technology or will to mess with us on the close driveby. So the Nibiruians messed with Sumerians at some point and decided to gently caress off for thousands of years to later swing by the bible.

So what I'm saying is obviously Jesus was an alien and his second coming will be during the next orbit.

Scientists studying dramatic Antarctic sea ice loss have called for urgent reductions to greenhouse gases to keep the planet within liveable conditions.

Marine and ice specialists from top research outfits gathered at an emergency summit in Wellington on Tuesday to discuss record low sea ice in Antarctica this year, which they described as "deeply alarming".

"We are missing between seven and 10 New Zealands' worth of sea ice", National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) marine physicist Dr Natalie Robinson said.
